Russell Brand: I’ve Never Voted

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Television, Rants, Videos,

Russell Brand has never voted. Despite taking over political magazine New Statesman as guest editor for one issue, the comedian admits he has never cast a single vote in a UK election because he doesn't believe in the British government system.

Speaking to BBC program Newsnight, he told host Jeremy Paxman, "I don't vote. I don't get my authority from this pre-existing paradigm which is quite narrow and only serves a few people. I look elsewhere for alternatives that might be of service to humanity. Alternate means or systems." When an incredulous Jeremy questioned his capabilities to discourse on politics, Russell insisted he was passionate about finding an alternative system which wouldn't leave the working class "disillusioned" and "despondent."

Usher Angers Voters in Atlanta

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Rants,

UsherVoters in Atlanta were furious when Usher was allowed to skip to the front of the line on election day.

The "OMG" hitmaker was given special treatment by polling officials, where he was allowed to bypass the long queue to vote during the recent US presidential election, and his fellow voters are unhappy with the move, according to local TV station WSBTV. However, election officials insist Usher was allowed to move to the front of the line to prevent chaos among those present.

They said in a statement that the site's poll manager "was directed to ensure that [Usher's] presence would not become a distraction by taking necessary measures to move [him] through the process as expeditiously as possible. At no point was this decision made for preferential treatment, but to avoid a distraction at the poll."

American Idol’s 10th finale opened with all due pomp and circumstance. Ryan Seacrest wore a tuxedo, but black tie was optional for everyone else. More than 122 million votes, a record number, were counted to determine whether Lauren Alaina or Scotty McCreery would become the next American Idol.

The year’s Top 13 performed “Born This Way” to open the night’s festivities, each dressed in white like angels. If only they sounded like angels. To call the number bad would be too nice. But the show would improve vastly from here...

American Idol 10: Top 6 Results

Ryan Seacrest predicted that viewers would be “upset” with the night’s results. But with only 6 contenders remaining in the year’s American Idol competition, any one of them is capable of surprising fans with an elimination. And the host’s comment was mostly bluster, for in the end it was the performer who performed the worst that was dismissed.

Seacrest took time to shine the spotlight on Steven Tyler, who’s all over the media this week because of his new memoir. As Tyler explained, “I may be good, but when I’m bad I’m even better.”
