Sonos ZonePlayer S5 wireless music system, $399

is looking to market to the and crowd with their new ZonePlayer S5 wireless music system. If you’re familiar with Sonos, you know that the price of entry has always been a bit high historically. The ZonePlayer S5 brings that price down to about $400. You plug it in to a router, and you are good to go with the ability to play your entire music library, as well as music from services like Rhapsody, Napster, Last.fm, and others, by using your iPhone as the remote control.

The price rises if you don’t have an Ethernet port handy for the S5, as you would then also need to buy a ZoneBridge, which allows you to connect the ZonePlayer S5 (as well as any other ZonePlayers you have) to your network wirelessly. We definitely think this is a positive step in the right direction for Sonos. By adding an all-on-one ZonePlayer/speaker to their line-up at this much lower price point, they’ve made it enticing to check them out to see what all the fuss is about. We’d pick up a ZonePlayer S5 over a Bose Sounddock any day of the week.

Another Microsoft Courier video shows how it’ll work

Remember that video we showed you last week? Well our friends at Gizmodo were able to uncover a bit more about the mysterious and astonishing Microsoft tablet device. In the leaked video above, you get a look at the way that the fine folks in Redmond think you’ll integrate the Courier tablet device into your everyday life. We must say, it’s insanely slick, and we hope that it works exactly as shown. Of course, this is just a demo, and it doesn’t even feature a real hand or stylus.

That said, we are big fans of the “infinite journal” approach, and we can certainly see a lot of professional uses for such a device with a natural input system. What we are still curious about, though, is if this thing is also meant to be a multimedia device. You know, movies, games, music? The things that we are expecting the Apple tablet to excel at? Or is this a case of Microsoft recognizing that Apple has a stronghold in that area, and as such, they’ll focus on a different, underserved demographic? Time will tell.

Best Camera iPhone app and community

If you’ve been looking for an app that can replace the default camera app for taking photos, Best Camera just may be what you’ve been looking for. Developed by Seattle photographer Chase Jarvis, Best Camera provides a full-featured camera control app, fantastic photo editing (think of it as an iPhone version of Photoshop,) and a great online community that lives both online and in the app, where you can see great photos that have been taken by other Best Camera users.

The app lets you fade, crop, lighten, darken, and add a ton of effects to photos you take. You can then share those photos to social sites like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and the Best Camera community.

Transformers made real with the OmniZero.9 robot

What you see here is a video from the Robo-One humanoid robot competition in Japan, with a real-life transformer.  The Omnizero.9, designed by Takeshi Maeda at Vstone, is a 3.5 foot tall, 55 pound . As you can see from the above video, it can transform into a rolling vehicle, and can even hold a person’s weight on their shoulders.  We’ve got another video of the robot after the jump, where you can watch it beat down another robot. 3.5 foot tall, 55 pound robot beating up another robot. That’s one bad Deceptacon.

Microsoft’s Courier tablet: We need one immediately

Our friends at Gizmodo recently got a fantastic scoop, revealing a project that Microsoft has been working on, known as the Courier tablet.  This device has been a secret for the Microsoft for a long time now. According to Giz, this is more than just a concept device, but rather, Courier is in the “late prototype” stage.

Courier has two 7-inch screens that are touch sensitive, and are designed to be interacted by touch or with the very pen-like stylus.  On its hinge is a home button like the , and this hinge serves as a virtual “pocket” to hold items that are moved from one screen to the other. 

No word on price or availability just yet, but you have to admit that it looks quite sexy. Of course, this may not even come to fruition, but it’s a bold challenge to Apple’s dominance in the sexy multitouch devices department.

Intel shows off Tangent Bay laptop with 3 OLED panels at IDF

just recently unveiled a concept laptop at IDF that features four screens.  The first screen would be a normal sized monitor, and the other three are s that are just above the keyboard.  The purpose of these three screens is so that the user can better organize their work.  For example, the smallest screen located to the far left would have some applications, and the center screen would show applications within those applications.  The third screen to the far right will have a preview of what is in those apps, and the user can bring that image to the big screen with a flick of the finger.  Go ahead and watch the video if you are confused, all in all, it’s pretty cool.

Nokia Booklet 3G extended promo video

has put together a nice promotional video, shot here in Seattle, and featuring a bunch of my friends giving their thoughts on mobile devices, and the Booklet 3G in general. Obviously, the big thing here is the 8-12 hour battery life on this Nokia laptop. Needless to say, we can’t wait to get our hands on this one.


Toshiba’s JournE touch multimedia tablet

Toshiba's JournE touch tablet

showed off their JournE touch multimedia tablet at , and it definitely looks interesting. This device is 14mm thick and weighs about a pound.  It only has 1GB worth of built-in storage, and comes with a SD slot for expansion.  As you can see, there is a lot of application icons, almost akin to a giant iPhone.  That’s about all we know for now, as it will be available in Q4.

Video clip of Steve Jobs hitting the stage, encourages organ donorship
