Pre-order your Xbox One Day One Special Edition console now!

If you are interested in being one of the very first to own the Xbox One this November, you'll be happy to know that you can pre-order the Xbox One right now. In fact, if you pre-order your Xbox One now, you'll get a special Day One Edition console. The system functionality itself won't be any different, however, you'll get a custom controller (pictured above) along with a special Xbox Live achievement that lets others know that you were there on day one. Additionally, Microsoft will also be selling a Day One Edition Xbox Live Gold 12-month pass that includes an exclusive Killer Instinct character. Pretty cool.

Sony PlayStation 4 goes on sale this holiday season for $399, pre-order now!

Yesterday Sony revealed the price of the PlayStation 4 console, which is set to launch this holiday season: $399. The PS4, which has no restrictions on used games, renting games, or lending games to friends, will cost a full $100 less than the Xbox One, which will impose each of those restrictions on its users. For your $400 you get the PlayStation 4 console, one DualShock 4 controller, HDMI cable, microUSB cable, and power cable. The PlayStation 4 Eye will be sold separately for $59.
Now that the price has been revealed, what do you think? Are you going with the Xbox One? PS4? Both?

2012 Holiday Gift Guide: Nintendo Wii U

Are you ready to usher in the arrival of the next-generation consoles? Nintendo is, as it's released the Wii U, today's pick in our 2012 Holiday Gift Guide. There are two configurations of Wii U available: a $299 white base model that packs in 8GB of storage, and a $349 Deluxe black bundle that has 32GB of storage and the NintendoLand game.
Both versions include the Wii U console, a WiiPad, sensor bar, AC adapters, and HDMI cable. If you opt for the Deluxe set, you'll also get a play stand, charging stand, and console stand.
The current Wii remotes and nunchuks are fully compatible with the Wii U console.

SmartGlass apps updated for Interactive sports experience on Xbox 360

If you're not familiar with the SmartGlass second-screen app for Microsoft's Xbox 360, it is an app that seeks to improve user viewing experience by connecting the 360 console to smartphones and tablets. Sports fans might be in for a new reason to download the app if they haven't already, as Microsoft is bringing SmartGlass functionality to it's ESPN and NBA Game Time apps, as well as a new Sports Picks app.
From the SmartGlass app for iOS, Android, and Windows, you will be able to navigate the content from the apps directly from the tablet or smartphone. SmartGlass also brings more interaction to the viewing experience, such as allowing competition between friends to see who is most knowledgeable about whatever they're watching, with the chance to be featured in a global leader board.
Nintendo Wii Mini is a $100 Canada exclusive

If you're looking for a budget friendly gaming console and you happen to live in Canada, then look no further than the Wii Mini for $100. The popular gaming console is in fact exclusive to Canada, eh! Sadly, the console breaks backwards compatibility with GameCube and lacks Internet access [Editor's note: Nintendo really dropped the ball here by removing Internet access. A $100 Wii Mini with Netflix, Hulu Plus, and YouTube access would be a fantastic set-top box.] It goes on sale on December 7th, and will be a cool Christmas stocking stuffer. Wii U unboxing video from Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata

Nintendo's next big home console, the Wii U, is set to launch here in the US in a week-and-a-half on November 18. That's typically when we'd expect to see unboxing videos start appearing online, but Nintendo president Satoru Iwata took advantage of his position, getting the jump on everyone with a nice head start. We've got the video below, after the break, of Iwata unboxing the Wii U Deluxe Edition console, showing off the system hardware, GamePad, and all the packed-in accessories. Microsoft working on Xbox Surface, a 7-inch gaming tablet

Among the smaller tablets of the world like the iPad mini, Kindle Fire HD, and Nexus 7, Microsoft's platform is nowhere to be found. Sure, the company just launched Surface a couple of weeks ago, it's first first-party tablet device, and it has the Surface Pro on the way too…but what about the smaller form factor? Well, it turns out that Microsoft is working on it's very own 7-inch tablet, the previously-uncovered Xbox Surface.
