Listen to music with friends on Facebook with Spotify, MOG, Rhapsody, Slacker, and more

Facebook is good for discovering the latest news about your friends and family, but what about music? As part of its f8 developer conference yesterday, the site teamed up with a number of online music entities to bring music discovery to Facebook.
Music companies like Spotify, Rdio, Rhapsody, and Slacker will be offering their own apps, which will allow you to share what you're listening to with friends on Facebook. Their music choices will also show up on your news feed, and you can listen to the songs right inside Facebook.
"You'll now start seeing new music posts and play buttons all over your newsfeeds. Hit a play button and the music starts. Right there," Spotify said in a blog post. "Spotify fires up to give you a new soundtrack to your social life. Check out your new Music Dashboard and your real-time ticker to discover the music that's trending with your friends."

Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga fans upset about YouTube music video takedowns

An unknown number of popular music videos disappeared from YouTube on Sunday night and Monday, thanks to what appeared to be either a hack or prank by what may be a 13-year-old cricket fan.
Videos from Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and other popular artists that were associated with Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards disappeared from YouTube's site, as well as the Vevo channel, WebProNews reported. The reason? A copyright claim that was filed by a person or persons named iLCreative.
Representatives from YouTube declined to comment. "A few videos by Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga were briefly taken down by YouTube as a result of false copyright claims. This issue has been resolved," a Vevo spokeswoman said in a statement Tuesday.

YouTube and UMG to Create Vevo

The Universal Music Group and YouTube are working on a new media service. Vevo will feature all of UMG’s videos on one site by using YouTube’s “leading edge video technology and user community.” Launching later this year, there will be access to UMG’s catalog of music videos and will include professional, artist and user generated content. Tunes can be accessed through the Vevo channel and a branded embedded player.
