Flea Talks New Red Hot Chili Peppers Album

Red Hot Chili Peppers wrote music on a piano for the first time for I'm With You.
During the band's recent hiatus, bass player Flea enrolled himself in the University of Southern California to study jazz trumpet, music theory, and composition as well as teaching himself the piano, which really changed his perspective on how to compose tracks for their latest album.
"I wrote music on piano, which is a different approach for us. I didn't play piano much before but on this record I composed on the piano and so did [new guitarist] Josh [Klinghoffer]. When you write on the piano, you write rhythm, bass, and harmony and reinterpret it with a rock band. We'd never done anything like that before - it had always come from a guitar and bass and drums."
The band - which also includes singer Anthony Keidis and drummer Chad Smith - found their new approach to songwriting so successful they had a huge wealth of material for forthcoming tenth album I'm With You, and had to cut it down:

Comic Book Jobs: ILM, Lucasfilm And USC
Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials, Movies, Television,
There are a bunch of interesting, and decidedly off-the-beaten-path jobs out there and some of them have only a tenuous connection to comics, but I like them nonetheless. Let’s take a look:
Industrial Light and Magic is looking to fill several positions, and while they’re not technically comic book jobs, they are for artists in the following areas: Animation (Character), Animation (Cloth), Animation (Facial), Animation (FX), Animation (Hair/Fur/Skin), Animation (Traditional), Compositing / Lighting / Image Processing, Lighting, Matchmoving and Rotoscoping. I think they’re too spiffy not to pass along.
USC is looking for an animation director or artist for the role of University Professor for their John C Hench Division of Animation and Digital Arts. USC, by the way, is the University of Southern California, where it's nice and warm and sunny.

Pete Carroll’s reaction to the USC sanctions
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: NCAA, College Football, News,
Former USC Trojans head football coach and current Seattle Seahawks head coach, Pete Carroll, reacted to the NCAA’s sanctions on the USC program - loss of 30 football scholarships over three years, two-year bowl ban, four years of probation, loss of 14 victories over 2004 and 2005, as well as possibly losing their 2004-05 national championship. All this because of the Reggie Bush infractions. Check the “Read More” link and learn more, but after watching the video, you will definitely have a WTF reaction. Carroll honestly believes that there was no wrong-doing? Well, of course he doesn’t, but he makes it sound as if USC was given the short end of the stick. At least that’s what it sounds like to me. Let me know what you think in the Comments section, but seriously, this is almost laughable, but it’s really just pathetic.

ISI Maps Internet
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Misc. Tech, Science,
USC’s Information Sciences Institute really needs to get a life. Beginning in 2003, the researchers began collecting data. They eventually created a map of the Internet. Their ISI computers searched about 2.8 billion IPs and received about 187 million answers. They then used one dot per addy and came up with a diagram of 9 x 9 feet, the brighter images showing the area of the greater number of computers.
John Heidemann, head of the project, says that the map is actually only a portion of what is out there since some computers may have been shut off or behind a firewall, but hopes it will help researchers study the spread of viruses. A 24 x 36-inch version of the map (with about 65,000 addresses squeezed into one dot) will become available, so contact ant@isi.edu if you would like to get a copy.

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Casting,
Although he’s moved on to bigger and better things, actor Will Ferrell hasn’t forgotten those he’s met along the way. As proof, he’ll be auctioning off a role in an upcoming comedy to help a friend. Step Brothers, co-starring John C. Reilly, will beginning filming this fall.
Proceeds from the auction will go to the Cancer for College foundation. The charity, started by a former USC fraternity brother, will help provide educational scholarships for current and former patients. (Ferrell’s friend, Craig Pollard, is a two-time survivor of Hodgkin’s disease).
Those interested will have to dig deep to win the role—the opening bid was set at $5000. You can click on the link below for more information.
UPDATE: The winning bid was $47,100. A ten-year-old boy will get the cameo role thanks to his extremely generous father.
