Adjustable Stand for Wii Play

Since you move around when you Wii, Thanko, the Lillian Vernon of Japan, has come up with this remote controllable device “of electromotive ascent and descent type large-sized television stand.” Translating the translation, the stand is meant for a screen of 40 to 60-inches, can stop at whatever height you desire, and has casters for portability (that thankfully lock down for those times when you get carried away by the game.) It’s available for a hefty 69,800 Yen (~$707.00.)

Phone Braver Monitors Your Calls

With an idea that originated from the Japanese TV show “Cellphone Investigator 7,” Softbank has created a mobile phone that can also be a robotic friend. Attach PhoneBraver’s arms and legs and it will begin to respond with differing faces. It also pays attention to your phone habits. If you call someone frequently it will say, “You’re calling her often these days, aren’t you?”

Apparently, you will be able to carry on a conversation by responding to PhoneBraver’s questions. We are not sure that we want our handset monitoring our phone calls. Look for it to come out this April.

PSP Goes Bronze

Sony is releasing a special Limited Edition PSP that comes with a bunch of accessories. To be released in Japan April 24, the Matte Bronze Value pack comes with a pouch, hand strap, a D Terminal AV cable, and a USB mic for Skype, which will become available March 18, for ¥23,800 (~$228.00.) Sony will also be offering a charging cradle that can be used for TV viewing or if you need a break from the gaming action. The holder comes with a remote and will be available for ¥4,800 (~$46.00.)

Hulu Opens With Limited Ad Viewing

Hulu, from the collaborative efforts of News Corp. and NBC Universal, opened today. So far it has only been in use by a test group, but now everyone can see more than 259 full length episodes of TV shows as well as about 100 movies for free from 50 networks, movie studios and Web-based media. The only catch is that there is a limited amount of ads to put up with, but hey, we can deal with that.

During a movie or show you often get your choice of commercials. We watched an episode of “The Simpsons” to see how much advertising there was, and in the half hour we saw only three 15 second spots. We will take that over network TV anytime. Did we mention that you can share, embed, or edit clips from the site? We love the Internet, truly.

Limit TV Time and Kids Lose Weight

Kid Playing Video Games Studies show that more kids are becoming obese these days due to more emphasis on video games, TVs, and computers, rather than actually exercising. Big Macs only add to the problem. Leonard Epstein of the State University of New York and team came up with a monitoring device that cuts time in half, resulting in overweight kids being forced to do something else that would burn those calories. After 2 years, the study found that kids who were restricted by 17.5 hours a week ended up with lower BMIs. We think this would be a good idea for some of the adults we know.

Sprint Offers More Than Just Talk for Less

Sprint has joined some of the other major mobile companies in offering a $99.99 unlimited calling plan. Referred to as “Simply Everything,” it not only includes talk, but gives you Web browsing, Sprint TV and Music, GPS navigation, text, video, and picture messaging, and push-to-talk. Existing customers can switch without a fee charge and newbies can sign up for the rate with a two year contract. While we are in no hurry to run to the company to get in on the hot deal, we hope their competitors will find this a fine time to vie for our dollars.

Samsung Unveils 3D TV

Although many companies are exploring the glories of 3D TV and consumers are paying the price for it, Korea has come up with the Samsung 3D Plasma for ordinary folk. The PAVV Cannes 450 comes in both 42 and 50-inches with a 30,000:1 ratio and will work with high performance 3D software and geeky glasses. Expect to spend ~$1,850.00 and ~$2,656.00 respectively. An HD version is also available for ~$4,145.00. Here’s hoping that “Captain EO” becomes available to go with one of our fave types of technology.

Next Sony Blu-ray players: BDP-S350, BDP-S550

Now that Sony has felt the smell of victory, this summer they will be releasing Blu-ray disc players with new features. The BDP-S350 features an ethernet connection for broadband which will be accessible with the software upgrade BD-Live. That will allow download bonuses such as trailers and games The player should carry a MSRP of ~$400.00. The BDP-S550 will already be BD-Live capable for about $100.00 more. Both will feature PIP Bonus View for cast and crew commentary. Note how it is encased in a “we won” color.

Panasonic P905i for TV Junkees

For those of you that need your TV fix no matter where you are, Panasonic has created the 3G/GSM/GPS P905i for DoCoMo with a 1seg TV tuner. The device features Panasonic’s Viera image processing on a 3.5-inch screen with a 854 x 480 resolution. It holds up to 1GB of memory and has a 2MPx sensor and auto-focus cam, as well as DCMXiD. Due out February 29, contact Panasonic or DoCoMo for price and availability and never worry about trying to catch up with the latest twist or turn of “Lost” again.

Sony to Release Bravia F Series

Sony Bravia F Sony has added the Bravia F series to its line. It includes a 32-inch WXGA and 40 and 46-inch HD LCDS. They have 3000:1 contrast ratios, 178º viewing angles, and can be mounted on the wall or on an optional metallic stand. With a sapphire black and aluminum design, all they need is a remote that works on a 2.4GHz band so you can sit far back and enjoy the display. How fortunate that they just happen to have one. The F series will be available in Japan on March 25 with prices of 200,000 Yen (~$ 1850.00) for the 32-inch, 290,000 Yen (~$ 2680.00) for the 40-inch model, and the 46-inch for 460,000 Yen (~$4257.00.)
