We don’t see portable TVs much these days, probably because laptops can double as them most of the time. Panasonic has a new one with an HDR-like TV tuner. The TH-L17F1 has a 17-inch backlit OLED with an IPV panel and a 1366x768 resolution. But the creative part is that the device captures 4 different image qualities from four subchannels from antennas. By using Japanese Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting and this technology, Panasonic promises better picture quality.

Mitsubishi MDT221WTF Viseo HD Monitor With Tuner

This is another example of getting rid of 2 devices when just one will do. Mitsubishi has come out with an Viseo HD LCD screen with a built-in digital tuner, supposedly the first of its kind in Japan. The MDT221WTF has a 21.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a contrast ration of 2000:1. The HDTV also features Diatone sound, 2 HDMI inputs and an analog D-SUB 15 pin input. Look for the price of ¥80,000 (~$800.00) and a November release.

The GHV-PDV751ST weighs a mere 824g and is compatible with Mpeg-1/2 Xvid, MP3, and JPEG. In addition, it features an SD slot, a battery lifespan of 2.5 hours and video in and out ports. At Computex 2008 in Taipei, Taiwan, AverMedia shows off their new digital TV Tuner solution for the Mac. It looks like a competent solution, and it’s great to see more TV tuner hardware that’s OSX compatible.
Look for it by the end of 2008. Pricing is likely to be on par with the other Volar series, which is around $100.

The device features Panasonic’s Viera image processing on a 3.5-inch screen with a 854 x 480 resolution. It holds up to 1GB of memory and has a 2MPx sensor and auto-focus cam, as well as DCMXiD.
