Steven Moffat’s Sherlock Holmes: England Wins

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials, Television,

SherlockLike many people, I tuned into the BBC's first series of new Sherlock Holmes adventures - Sherlock - out of curiosity.

Steven Moffat (Doctor Who; Coupling) and Mark Gatiss (The League of Gentlemen; Poirot; Doctor Who) were involved and anything they do is on my “Check This Out” list.

I don’t have a great love for the classic Sherlock Holmes of Arthur Conan Doyle - I grew up watching Basil Rathbone’s Holmes fight Nazis so everything’s fair game with me.

So I watched all three episodes of Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, and loved them all. Brilliantly told, well-acted, modernized, and yet in keeping the parts of Holmes that I enjoy, and dropping in knowing nods to the Doyle stories.

Mio Knight Rider GPS System

KR GPSIf you can’t afford the real KITT, Mio has developed the Knight Rider GPS unit with voice prompts from the original man behind the car, William Daniels. (You thought we were going to say Hasselhoff, didn’t you?) The LCD displays red LEDs, similar to the car’s front lighting. Among other comments, after powering up it will ask, “Hello Michael. Where do you want to go today?”

Too much fun, especially if your name is Michael. The Knight Rider is expected to carry a $270.00 price. Contact Mio for further details.

Get a Look at Land of the Lost

Land of the Lost, Sleestak

Back in February, we told you about a planned remake of the ‘70s series, .  The comedy, starring Will Ferrell, would give a modern update to the mysterious land filled with dinosaurs and things called Pakuni.

While the recreation will not have any kids (they’ve been replaced by two adult companions), other elements of the original show will remain as true as possible.  In the picture above, you can see director Brad Silberling’s (Lemony Snicket) version of the classic Sleestaks.  The lizard creatures - which won’t be products of CGI - will come with slightly enhanced features.  Instead of being armed with crossbows, the green guys will be able to draw quills from their spines.

Production on the project is currently underway.

American Idol: Dreams Don’t Die

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol,

Carly SmithsonTuesday night’s featured a trio of interesting contestants and stories that struck a chord, at least with me. Sure, there were more than three contestants vying for a place on the Idol stage, but three of these competitors really stuck out in my mind.

Young Blake Boshnak shares the same dream with his mother: make it through to Hollywood week. After eleven times singing in front of the judges (and eleven rejections), Blake says he’s going to keep chasing the dream and driving to different cities to try out. He may not have the pipes, but he’s got a lot of heart.

Another standout from the Tuesday (San Diego) auditions was sixteen-year-old David Archuleta, a young man who beat partial vocal paralysis to stand before the judges and belt out his best. He did, they loved it, and he’s made it through to Hollywood. Based on early producer comments on Idol’s , I believe this young man will be in the Final 24. I also believe he’ll in be in the final few to compete for the next Idol crown.
