Werd: Bailout - Part Two
Posted by Patrick Snajder Categories: Domestic Policy, Editorials, US Economy, Wall Street,
I am not a master of finance, to say the very least. [You can find my full opinion on debt and credit here.]
While 80% of the freshman when I was a senior at the University of Richmond in 2000 would go on to earn a major or minor degree from our Business School, I never took a single class at the School, and only ever held disdain for those that did.
It should be no coincidence, then, that almost ten years later, I am still buried underneath school loans and have seen my best entrepreneurial ideas die quick deaths due to my ignorance in all areas involving money. My relationship to the American economy, to this point, has been adversarial: we both cared little for one another and worked towards the other’s hopeful demise. But it is not with joy that I witness the economy’s current unhealthy state, as its disappointment only furthers a lesser state of my personal economy. If the current American economy were to die, a part of my life would surely die with it.

Paul McCartney Makes Heather Mills a Millionaire
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Divorce, Legal Issues,
Come next week, Heather Mills will not just be the most-hated women in Britain, she’ll also be one of the wealthiest.
According to UK’s Daily Mail, there may finally be an end to the Paul McCartney-Heather Mills divorce saga. The two, who announced their separation back in May 2006, have been negotiating in court over the past week. The Beatle and the Dancing with the Stars contender were married back in June 2002.
The Mail claims Mills is expected to receive a $110 million settlement. That figure is based on $40 million lump sum for her, and approximately $5 million per year for the McCartney heir up until the age of 18. (Beatrice is currently 4-years-old.) Stella’s half-sis will also have a $2 million trust waiting for her when she comes of age. In all, Mills will be raking in approximately $27.5 million for each year she was married to the music legend.

Eating Turkey May Involve Trust Issues
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Science,
If you have already had your post-Thanksgiving nap, you might be interested to know that the molecule tryptophan may have another use besides making you nod off. Researchers from Oxford University say that the chemical precursor to serotonin may also induce trust. Volunteers were given a drink that depleted their tryptophan. Although the final results are not in from the experiments, they found that when they reduced it, the chemical also lowered “the reward value of cooperating.” We just wonder why every family Thanksgiving feast we have ever attended has ended in a tussle.
(Happy Turkey Day!)
