E3 2007: Resident Evil 5’s Spectacular Trailer

From the Microsoft press conference, we got a much welcomed look at Resident Evil 5, which will be released next year. The graphics are stunning, and the game seems to be following more in the footsteps of Resident Evil 4 as opposed to reverting back to previous entries in the series. That’s by no means a bad thing, since Resident Evil 4 was one of the best games released in the past few years, bar none. We still don’t know who this protagonist is, but he makes another appearance here. My money is on Chris Redfield, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

E3 2007: Halo 3 Single Player Video

As opposed to the other Halo 3 video which was practically nothing but live action, this video is filled with just over two minutes of Halo 3’s single player – and it looks good. Cortana makes a brief appearance, and what looks to be an array of new Covenant dropships, new armor for the Brutes and a lot of other things only Halo fanatics can really appreciate. Nevertheless, give it a watch and keep counting down the days until September 25.

The Mysterious Trailer Preceding ‘Transformers’

J.J. Abrams For the millions of you who stepped out to see Transformers this past week—you probably walked away with one plaguing question: What was the name of the movie for that trailer I saw?

Despite having seen the production logos, for a moment I wasn’t entirely sure I was watching a film teaser. It almost seemed like a cheap commercial. There were shots from a hand-held camera at some type of going-away party….flashes of lights in the sky….then building pieces (including the Statue of Liberty’s head) hurtling around. Then nothing. About the only thing indicating that it was a movie was a mention of the release date. Then when I saw J.J. Abrams’ name—it all seemed quite fitting.

New Grand Theft Auto IV Trailer In Three Days, And New Details

In three days, the Internet is set to crash once again when the newest (the second of three) GTA IV trailer sees the light of day. Hopefully we’ll be seeing something more action-oriented this time around, as opposed to the first, which was more of a showcase for Liberty City than anything else. The video is titled “Looking for that Special Someone” and a special website is being prepped by Yahoo in order to withstand the insane amount of traffic it will receive once the trailer goes live. Anyone want to place bets on how long it’ll take for the site to crash?

Expect us to pick it apart piece by piece once it goes live, and later in the week Kyle and I will be debating over the excruciating details and nuances the trailer presents us with.

As an added bonus, last week, the Turkish Official Xbox Magazine revealed several tasty nuggets about GTA IV. Everyone loves lists, so I present you a list of GTA goodness:

There’s a slight vibration with every footstep when you run (sorry PS3 players)
No more HUD (health and armor indicators are gone), and instead everything is visual – if you have armor, you’ll see the bulletproof vest and it will visually deteriorates
Flamethrowers and rocket launchers are in the game
Explosions are larger, and the game features a missions where you cause a chain reaction of car explosions
Cars don’t explode from crashes or hitting them; you need to actually blow them up
Niko doesn’t get tired, he just begins running slower over time
The game is much more time-sensitive. An example that isn’t necessarily in the game was a mission where you need to catch a train by a certain time, and if you don’t, you don’t get to do that mission.
Gore is more prevalent; bullet wounds show, blood appears as you shoot people, they limp when shot in the leg, hold their arm if it’s shot, and running people over is “disturbing”
No more eating, working out or having a girlfriend, but skills improve over time
100% completion yields secret vehicles and “plenty of goodies”
The land size is larger than the three cities (sans countryside) from San Andreas

No more girlfriends? Hooray!

OMG Call of Duty 4 Gameplay Video Looks Incredible

Apparently this is in-game footage, folks. That’s right – looks like we’ve got an FPS that actually stands a chance during the Halo 3 onslaught later this year. I just can’t figure out if that smoke looks really good, or really out of place…

Mercenaries 2 Trailer: Because Blowing Stuff Up And Jacking Helicopters Rocks

I think the title of this story and video speak for themselves, but I’m definitely getting excited for Mercenaries 2. While I have no doubt that GTA IV will provide a much more solid narrative and better all-around experience, Mercs 2 looks like it’s shaping up to be one of those games that is just pure fun to play. I mean, who doesn’t want to blow up everything in sight, then rappel up to a nearby helicopter, eject the pilot, and then man the controls themselves? That’s the definition of fun.

GTA IV Trailer Now Online

Rockstar Games officially released the first teaser trailer for Grand Theft Auto IV. Scheduled to ship on October 16th, the game will be the first entry in the series for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The trailer gives a brief, but detailed look at the updated look for Liberty City, and the focus this time appears to be on a Russian immigrant character. Beyond that, it is hard to get a feel for where Rockstar is taking the sandbox game series, particularly story and gameplay-wise. One can get glimpses of the product parodies that gamers have gotten used to for the game, but beyond that, the trailer does it’s job – whet gamer’s appetites for more to come.

Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta Sign Up Monday

Microsoft has just announced that gamers will be able to sign up to participate in the Halo 3 multiplayer beta on Monday, December 4. On that day, people will be able to sign up for the beta by going to www.halo3.com; those gamers selected will get exclusive access to the pre-release code some time around spring of 2007. The sign-up is tied to the debut of a new CGI-rendered trailer for the game set to air on ESPN’s Monday Night Football between 5:50 and 6:20 p.m. PST.

Spider-Man 3 Trailer Hits The Airwaves

The new Spider-Man 3 trailer will be unveiled tonight, November 9th, nearly six months before the film’s release. In a large television and internet blitz, the 2-1/2-minute trailer will debut around 10pm (ET/PT) on the following channels: CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, MTV2, BET, Logo, Spike TV, and VH1.

The trailer will also be available for online viewing at AddictingGames.com, AddictingClips.com, BET.com, MTV.com, IFilm.com, Nick.com, ComedyCentral.com, GameTrailers.com, LogoOnline.com, Neopets.com, SpikeTV.com, The-N.com, VH1.com, Xfire.com, and right here on FilmCrunch, after the jump.

New Legend Of Zelda Trailers Online

Nintendo has posted a couple of new trailer videos for Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on the Wii. The first shows off the introduction to the game, with Link riding through the game world. The second offers some tidbits of the gameplay and the cutscenes for the game. Also available on Wii.com are some gameplay experience videos, with other players taking on the new Zelda on the Wii. The new videos definitely recall the previous incarnations of Link on the Nintendo 64, with new twists and upgrades for Nintendo’s new console.
