Tiny Tim tearing it up in Royals’ bullpen

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB,

Tim CollinsAfter the Kansas City Royals dealt Zack Greinke in the offseason, many thought the team was up for yet another reboot of the familiar rebuilding theme. Instead, the Royals find themselves with a .500 record and sit ahead of both the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins in their division. A good part of their early success is due to breakout rookie reliever Tim Collins. The small lefty has been solid on the hill and helped his team eke out some of their early 20 victories.

Zack Greinke sitting tight while Cliff Lee is on market

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB, Rumors, Trades,

Zack GreinkeZack Greinke’s new uniform has been one of the biggest non-stories of the Winter Meetings. The Royals aren’t interested in playing their ace until Cliff Lee chooses a new home. There’s a lot of benefit in waiting for Lee to make up his mind, as most teams are interested in Lee before Greinke anyway. Once Lee’s off the market, Greinke becomes America’s most wanted and the Royals can barter for as much as they want. They’ll find a buyer willing to overpay somewhere.

The Calgary Flames need to trade Jarome Iginla

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL, Rumors,

Jarome IginlaJarome Iginla’s time in Calgary has to be coming to an end. Rumors continue to pour in that the Flames are entertaining trade offers for Iginla, but the longer they wait before making a deal, the worse Iginla’s trade value becomes. For a team that appears to be going nowhere fast, the longer they wait to pull the trigger on a deal for Iginla, the lower the return they’re likely to get back in trade.

Jason Bartlett maybe moving out of Tampa Bay

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB, Rumors,

Jason BartlettWhat is Jason Bartlett to do? After an awful 2010 season, the shortstop finds himself awaiting arbitration with Tampa Bay and will probably end up earning a little more than the $4 million he made last season, but he may not wear a Rays uniform while he collects his paychecks next season. More than a handful of teams have expressed interest in attaining Bartlett’s services, but it will depend on another shortstop’s decision that will determine actual trade partners with Tampa Bay.

Canadiens decision looking solid as Carey Price edges Jaroslav Halak

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL,

Jaroslav HalakWhen Montreal dealt goaltender Jaroslav Halak to St. Louis last summer, many were quick to throw the Canadiens under the bus for cutting ties with Halak instead of Carey Price. How could they turn their backs on a goalie who was absolutely outstanding for over a month of playoff hockey? Still, the Canadiens did not believe that Halak was the better of the two. Plus, Price is younger, more controllable and shows more promise than Halak for the future.

Zack Greinke being shopped by Kansas City Royals?

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB, Rumors,

Zack GreinkeRoyals right-hander Zack Greinke still has two years left on a four-year deal he signed in 2009, but a lot of talk is coming out lately about Kansas City entertaining offers for the 27-year-old pitcher. Greinke, the 2009 American League Cy Young Award winner can fetch a great return. His 2010 totals – 4.17 ERA, 220 innings pitched, 181 strikeouts, 1.25 WHIP – were also rather impressive, considering the team playing behind him.

Eric Belanger slammed by Washington Capitals

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL, Rumors,

Eric BelangerEric Belanger’s offseason wasn’t the typical team shopping that most free agents experience. Belanger signed a deal with the Phoenix Coyotes, but that came after a deal that was more than done fell through with the Washington Capitals. Belanger became the victim of the free agent game and in the end chose to walk away from the organization. But was it the right move for he and his agent to make this situation a public one?

Dotel leaves Dodgers like so many before him

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB, Trades,

Octavio DotelFirst Manny, now Octavio. The Dodgers released another of their older roster players on Saturday when the Rockies claimed Octavio Dotel off waivers for a player to be named later. The Dodgers aren’t mathematically eliminated from the postseason yet, but it will take a heck of a lot of stumbling around for them to make a playoff push. By this time next week, the Dodgers will be playing rookies and resting veterans; if they have any left, that is.
