Toshiba Thrive comes to Best Buy on July 10
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Google, Handhelds

The Toshiba Thrive finally has an official U.S. release date, although the news comes from retail partner Best Buy rather than the tablet maker itself.
Best Buy on Thursday confirmed that Toshiba's 10.1-inch Thrive tablet running Google's Android 3.1 Honeycomb will be available for in-store purchase on July 10. Toshiba, unlike more publicity minded tablet makers, never named an official release date for the Thrive, though Best Buy and other Toshiba retail partners began taking pre-orders in mid-June.
Toshiba's new Wi-Fi-only tablet "joins a rapidly expanding tablet selection at Best Buy, which is re-designing both its in-store and online tablet presentation to enable customers to learn more about and easily compare new devices as they become available," the retailer said in a statement.
A big clue that the Thrive would be made available on Sunday arrived earlier this week when the Best Buy website's Thrive pre-order page began listing delivery dates of as early as July 10 for customers pre-ordering 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB Toshiba tablets.

Toshiba BDX2700 Blu-ray player review
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: HDTV, Home Entertainment, Product Reviews

If you were wondering how Toshiba‘s mid-range Blu-ray player fared when compared to everything else out there, the guys over at TweakTown have put together a nice review of the device.
Toshiba was once a major player in the two-year long “High Definition Wars”, pitting the HD-DVD format against Blu-ray disc. With fans in each camp, the ultimate fate of HD DVD came about when manufacturers began dropping support for that format and switched over to releasing movies on Blu-ray alone, thus cutting HD-DVD off at the knees. Though the format still lives on today in used movie stores all across the country, Toshiba eventually dropped all support for their competing format and began releasing Blu-ray disc players of its own.
The BDX2700 is a replacement to Toshiba’s first generation Blu-ray player; the BDX2000 (released almost a year ago) and is the current top of the line player (the BDX2500 is a cheaper version which lacks built-in wireless connectivity). The BDX2700 is a “basic” Blu-ray player, which is perfect for those who are upgrading from the straightforward DVD disc players and are confused by the myriad of connectivity options and “apps” that are required for so many consumer electronics these days. Video connections are the typical HDMI, component and composite, while the audio side of things drops the coaxial connection in favor of full analog connectivity (in the event that your sound system doesn’t decode the Blu-ray lossless audio codecs).

Toshiba’s JournE touch multimedia tablet
Posted by Mark Rollins Categories: Handhelds, PC / Laptop, Portable Audio / Video

Toshiba showed off their JournE touch multimedia tablet at IFA 2009, and it definitely looks interesting. This device is 14mm thick and weighs about a pound. It only has 1GB worth of built-in storage, and comes with a SD slot for expansion. As you can see, there is a lot of application icons, almost akin to a giant iPhone. That’s about all we know for now, as it will be available in Q4.
You can check out a video after the jump.

Digital Picture Frames are very common these days, but Toshiba Digital Media Frames are quite uncommon. Toshiba announced three new types at Rockefeller Center today, as well as its partnership with FrameChannel.
