American Idol 9: Top 10 Results

’s Top 10 results show opened with a Clash of the Titans movie tie-in. Simon Cowell, of course, was the villain, with the contestants portrayed as Titans in the opening video package. It was pretty cute, but it’s still blatant cross-promotional advertising.

Viewers were not graced with a group performance this week. To see the entire Top 10 singing together on one stage, it seems you’ll have to go to one of the summer tour shows. Though the Idols did not sing together, this particular results show was still jam-packed with stage shows, starting with one favorite AI alum.

O’Reilly’s fists didn’t do all the talking

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, Editorial, NHL,

Terry O'ReillyNow that we’ve more or less recovered from the green beer and shenanigans of St. Patrick’s Day, it’s time to take a look at some other important parts of Irish history: infractions and Boston. Former NHL winger Terry O’Reilly was famous for both. The ex-Bruin made a name for himself in Beantown thanks largely to his scoring touch, but more significantly for his staggeringly large number of penalty minutes. O’Reilly tallied 2,095 in his 14-year career.

American Idol 9: Top 10 Guys Perform

Due to a “last-minute change of plans,” American Idol 9’s Top 10 men performed on Tuesday, a decision that was made only hours before the show was scheduled to air. had to be rushed to the hospital and was deemed unable to sing, which is why the switch was made. Rehearsal schedule changes were also made to accommodate the change.

The Top 10 Guys would be given no quarter, surprise command performance or no. “It’s still the boys against the boys, the girls against the girls,” as Randy Jackson said.

Michael Lynche began the show, revealing a love of theater in his intro clip. He chose to sing “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” by James Brown, starting out very strong. Lynche’s wardrobe was much nicer this week, and his vocals were beautifully on display. It was a much better song choice this week. Randy Jackson gave Lynche a standing ovation, calling him an “R&B star.” Ellen DeGeneres found his performance to be “the one to beat.” Kara DioGuardi thinks Lynche is “potentially a great artist.” Simon Cowell thought Michael went “from being a pussycat to a lion in one week,” and found it to be “by far” Lynche’s “best performance in the competition.”

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, CBS, Video,

“If this thing had happened three months ago, I’d have material for a year.”

Last night, David Letterman got his first chance to address a subject other funnymen have been tackling for some time now: the . Because the Late Show had been in repeats for the past week, Letterman had additional time to craft his first round of jokes—time that was probably needed.

“I wish he would stop caling me for advice,” David said referencing his own public scandal. “I have never seen such a media firestorm… There’s nothing this big since my gay kiss with Adam Lambert,” he added.

has topped a list of the Most Overpaid Stars. The actor and comedian topped the annual list by Forbes magazine, which calculated how much moviemakers earn per dollar paid to their lead actor.

After the last couple of funnyman Will’s films - Semi-Pro and - bombed at the box office, his rate of return has dropped to $3.29 for every dollar of Will’s fee. This contrasts greatly with the other end of the scale, which saw Shia LaBeouf named as the Best Actor for the Buck in August, earning studios an average of $160 for every dollar he was paid.

Behind Will on list was actor , while Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson all made the Top Ten. Only one female (Drew Barrymore) had the unfortunate luck of being included.

The Best SYTYCD Performances: July 15, 2009

And I thought last week’s White Stripes number was good.

If this is how is going to start the Top 10, I can’t imagine what the weeks ahead will have in store for us. While there were several highlights from last night’s performance show, these are the two that stood out most to me.

In the clip above, the final girls combined talents for probably the show’s best group female performance ever. The Bollywood number, choreographed by Nakul Dev Mahajan, was an absolute delight to watch.

American Idol 8 Top 10 and Smokey Robinson

It’s Motown week for the Top 10 performers of 8. It’s this group that we’ll see again and again throughout the season and even after the finalist is named. They will all return to tour through the summer; some of them may even go on to have successful careers. But at least a few of them, we’ll never hear from again. For one of them, that topple from reality TV supremacy could begin as early as tomorrow night.

Paula Abdul bid the remaining contestants to “surprise us,” for the night’s performances. “The point, tonight, is what you do to make these songs original,” Simon Cowell advised.

To celebrate the theme, the Top 10 took a trip to Detroit, where Motown Records was established. There, they were greeted by a dozen or so screaming fans and iconic recording artist Smokey Robinson, who just happens to be the mentor for this week.

American Idol 8: Alexis Grace Talks Elimination

Alexis Grace “I feel kind of like I let my state down,” petite Alexis Grace spoke with reporters following her elimination. “I’m from the South, and we’re supposed to do country well.”

“I think I actually sing country pretty good. So it was a disappointment,” she admitted. Alexis plans on pursuing her career in music, with or without American Idol.

Grace was cut from the show just shy of making the Top 10, which means she won’t be part of the summer tour. But don’t write off just yet. “If you want to do anything in life, if you want to pursue a dream, you’ve got to work hard at it and believe in yourself,” Grace remains positive when it comes to her dreams, though she had her hopes dashed when she thought she might be saved from elimination Thursday night. “It’s early in the game, and it wouldn’t be good for TV if they did it so early,” Grace said of the judges’ save. “It just wasn’t the right time.”

Before she kicks off her post-Idol career, Alexis Grace is heading to Memphis, Tennessee for some family time. When she does get ready to record her own tunes, Alexis expects that her sound will be something like “Joss Stone, mixed with Carrie Underwood, mixed with Sheryl Crow.”
