TiVo and Nero have teamed to make Liquid TV software. It includes the simple TiVo interface to watch and record TV shows and movies in HD and Standard formats on your TV or PC. Liquid TV has the ability to burn to DVD or hard drive, pause, export to PMP or iPod, and schedule recordings in the U.S. and Canada. The package includes TiVo’s Season Pass, WishList, and a 12 month subscription to the service, and comes with tuner for your PC and remote. All in all, this is a fine deal for $199.00 that will be out October 15. If you already have a tuner, Nero is offering the software separately for $99.00, TiVo subscription included.

We knew it was just a matter of time before our friends at TiVo finally released something a little more, robust, to take the place of the discontinued TiVo Series3 DVR. While the TiVo HD is a nice unit, it just wasn’t the premium product that the Series3 was. The TiVo HD XL is all about taking that premium spot, and it certainly looks like a worthy replacement. The unit ships with a 1 terabyte hard drive, which means it can record up to 150 hours of HD programming, HDMI cable, along with a premium Series3 backlit TiVo remote. The TiVo HD XL features dual tuners, which lets you record two programs at the same time, and is even THX certified (something that the TiVo HD can’t brag about.) The one jarring piece here is the price, as the TiVo HD XL is selling for $599.99. If it’s worth it to you, you can order one right now at the TiVo website, or you can wait a few days and check your local retailer. We have the full press release for you after the break.
Way out of left field, TiVo has announced that customers are going to be able to browse and purchase from Amazon’s huge inventory, from the comfort of their living rooms. You know, because shopping a store that has tens of thousands of items to choose from, using just your remote control, is all kinds of awesome. To take part, you need to have a broadband-connected TiVo Series 2, Series 3, or TiVo HD (seriously, is anyone still doing dial-up on these things?).
Starting today, TiVo will launch the new service to consumers by merchandising products related to several high profile shows, including but not limited to The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Colbert Report, and Burn Notice. Consumers will also be able to use TiVo’s Universal Swivel Search to easily explore and buy products associated with their favorite shows, movies, actors, and directors, directly from the television set
I don’t know about you, but these images showing Amazon shopping on TiVo don’t look that enticing. In any event, you can get your shop on starting today.

Our buds at TiVo have been at it again with one of their surveys, in time for Dad’s day. It seems that when 700 men were asked what shows they liked, the results were surprising:
- Dancing With the Stars – 33%
- Grey’s Anatomy – 24%
- Desperate Housewives – 22%
- Access Hollywood – 17%
- TMZ – 16%
Also in time for the holiday, TiVo is offering several gift packs such as the Advantage Package that includes an 80-hour TiVo Series2 Dual Tuner DVR with TiVo service gift card. It has an instant $150.00 rebate which makes it only $99.99. Check out their site for other deals for your father/partner/spouse.

Western Digital has unveiled its My DVR Expander USB Edition external hard drive. Compatible with DISH Network’s VIP Series HD DVRs, the 500GB drive increases storage up to 300 hours of SD or 60 hours of HD. It has a passive cooling system without fan, thereby making it a quieter device, and WD claims that it is uses a third less power than most external drives. It seems that the good folks at TiVo do more than poll Superbowl commercials. They took a heartfelt survey that shows that 86% would rather stay home for dinner and a movie than go out for Valentines Day. Even more interesting are the results when participants were asked which TV show their love lives most represented.
- Paradise Hotel 2 - Stunning and Serene 36%
- The Biggest Loser - Difficult and Defeated 21%
- Supernanny - Crazed with Kids 15%
- When Women Rule the World - A One-sided Wonder 15%
- Rock of Love 2 with Bret Michaels - Loud and Wild 8%
- The Real Housewives of New York City - Rich and Spoiled 5%
Who are these people and where can we get our own Paradise Hotel? For those who aspire to that status, TiVo and Amazon Unbox are offering some discounted titles to watch tomorrow including “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” and a free download of BBC’s “Romeo and Juliet” for the weekend February of 15 through 17.

TiVo takes some time at Digital Experience from CES to show us their latest iteration of TiVo Desktop, version 2.6. Version 2.6 includes some very cool features, including the ability for users to automatically push web-based video and podcasts (like like ours) straight down to their TiVos automatically. We talk about availability and what else to expect coming down the pipeline from TiVo in the near future in this video.
We know that everyone could use a bit more storage capacity in thier TiVo Series3 or TiVo HD units. Luckily, Western Digital has released My DVR Expander - a 500GB eSATA disk that is perfect for bumping up your TiVo’s storage capacity. We show you how it works in this episode.
As for the My DVR Expander unit itself, here is an overview from Western Digital:
Instantly add up to 60 hours of high-definition TV or up to 300 hours of standard-definition TV to your eSATA-enabled DVR. You’ll have plenty of room to save your programs longer and never miss your favorite shows.
Easy to set up, easy to use - Just plug it in to the external SATA (eSATA) port on your DVR and start recording even more TV shows, sporting events and movies. eSATA port must be active.
Compatible - My DVR Expander has been tested for compatibility with Scientific Atlanta 8300 Series, and has been TiVo verified compatible with TiVo® Series3 and TiVo HD DVRs. Check with your cable service provider to confirm compatibility with their system.
Quiet and Cool - A unique no-fan passive cooling system and special hard drive design makes it quiet for the living room or bedroom.
Low-intensity LED - Designed with a soft amber LED indicator, ideal for the living room or bedrooms.
As we note in the video, once you hook up and activate the My DVR Expander, if you ever choose to disconnect it from your DVR, you will lose all the content that is stored on it.
We caught up with our peeps over at TiVo during CES and hit them up with a few questions about the newly announced TiVoToGo software for the Mac. We got a brief demonstration of the software, which is built-in to Roxio Toast 8, which shows off a bunch of it’s functionality. If you are on a Mac and looking to move your TiVo content to your computer, your moment has arrived.
