Skull WatchThis spooky watch seems apropos for the upcoming holiday and any other time you are feeling mildly goth. The Marc Jacob Skull Watch has a nasal cavity that shows the hour and a drooping eye for the minute. The face is enameled black and white with silver highlights and the black patent leather band features the designer’s signature. At a price of $200.00, we think you might want to wear it for more than just one day a year.

Oracle I Ching Watch

Oracle Watch

Some of us spent our earlier years consulting the Chinese I Ching to help us make decisions when we were probably procrastinating. The text is created by a set of hexagrams that are arranged in specific patterns in 6 lines for a total of 64 different arrangements. Andy Kurovets has designed a prototype watch that does the same thing. You press the button 6 times to make a hexagram and it will guide you through all those rough spots. We think it would be nice to have our own Oracle around when we are indecisive.

Corpus Clock Given to CCC

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Misc. Tech, Science, Videos

We have seen some fairly strange timepieces in our time but this one has really lived up to the description. The Corpus Clock took a team of 8 about 5 years to create and was recently unveiled by Stephen Hawking on the Corpus Christi College campus. Inventor John Taylor said he wanted to “make timekeeping interesting.“ The clock’s face is 4 ft. wide and gold plated. The grasshopper (aka Chronophage, which means time eater) atop it munches a minute every 60 seconds. Run by an electric motor, it will supposedly run for 25 years.

Want to own a piece of Albert Einstein? Antiquorum is auctioning off one of his watches on October 16. Pleasure.dk says that the watch, dated when Einstein was 51 years old, is made of 14 carat gold. He was given it February 16, 1931, in Los Angeles. (Einstein was 51 years old at the time.) The Longines timepiece is expected to bring in from $25,000.00 to $35,000, a hefty price, but not if you are one of those who are geeky enough have Einstein’s picture over your cubicle.

Tokyoflash Galaxy Watch

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Clothing, Misc. Tech

Galaxy WatchTokyoflash has another new and confusing timepiece. The Galaxy works by one touch, which starts animation and then displays the time on digital tube LEDs. The 12 yellow bars are the hours, the 11 red bars are groups of 5 minutes, and the 4 green bars represent each minute. Press the lower button and forgo the animation. Available in silver, the Galaxy carries a price of ¥13,900 (~$132.85.) We have been telling you about Tokyoflash’s watches for so long that we think we almost have the hang of it.

Lexon Around Analog Clock

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, Misc. Tech

Around ClockLexon has developed the Around, an analog clock that works when the cylinder body moves around the static red arm. At a size of 11 x 5.5cm, the Anthony Dickens design is available in both black and white. The timepiece runs on a single included AA battery. The Around is available for £22.94 (~$50.00.) While we admire the design, we are wondering how practical it would turn out to be if you are on the wrong side of the arm.

Laser Target Alarm Clock

Target Alarm ClockWhen you feel like you want to take potshots at your alarm in the morning, now you can do just that with the Laser Target Alarm Clock. When it goes off, you shoot the laser directly into the target to turn it off for the next 24 hours, unless you change its time or manually deactivate the thing. We figure by the time you aim and go bang, you will certainly be awake. The clock takes 3 AAA batteries and the laser 3 LR44 (not included) at a price of $19.99.

Haptica Braille Watch

Haptica Watch

The Haptica is a fine prototype of a Braille watch. The sight-impaired user gets an accurate reading by four groups of 4 dials made of dots on disks that only partially are displayed. They rotate the dot pattern in an extended circle to show the hours, minutes, and seconds. Designer David Chavez calls his ergonomic timepiece capable of working with analog or magnetic repulsion to move the dials along. Our kudos to the man and hope his idea reaches the market soon.

Oberon WatchIt’s been awhile since we heard from Tokyo Flash and see that they have another new watch to confuse us. Their Oberon S-Mode series has a stainless steel body with full face black mineral crystal lens. The blue LEDs are a bit simpler to read than some of their others, with the outer ring as the hour, the second showing minutes, and the inner one is minutes in groups of ten. Another button push and you get the date. At a size of 38 x 38 x 11 mm and a weight of 150g, the Oberon carries a price of ¥15,900 (~$159.25.)

Issey Miyake Minimalist WatchTokyoflash, home of the incomprehensible line of wristwatches, will also be including those from Japanese designers for a limited time. We especially like Naoto Fukasawa’s minimalist watch that is more than just your basic timepiece. The site says it is supposed to “resemble the various moods of a human, using the position of the dials and hands.” Available in white or blue, the water-resistant Issey Miyake watch comes with free shipping and carries a price of ¥38,900 ($401.03.)
