Supreme Court to drop the hammer on Internet threats

supreme court Internet threats

Anyone who has spent any time online has probably gotten a death threat or two. Maybe you were playing Call of Duty and some 11-year-old questioned your sexuality before telling you he'd kill your family. Maybe you offended the legions of desperate Tumblr bloggers in some arcane way and you woke up to a swarm of messages on your dash saying they would hack you and your dog apart with rusty machetes. You probably did what any reasonable person did and rolled your eyes and went about your day.

Statements and threats on the internet aren't usually taken seriously. Both the giver and the receiver are usually anonymous and the threat is usually over the top enough that you laugh and think nothing of it.

Well, the highest court in the United States might be ready to have the final word.

Snoop Lion Wants Gay Marriage Equality

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Legal Issues,

Snoop LionSnoop Lion has "no issues" with gay marriage. The rapper spoke in favor of equality as the US Supreme Court debates California's ban on same-sex weddings, adding people should be free to do "as they please."

"People can do what they want and as they please ... Satisfy yourself accordingly. I have no issues with nobody, I live for me and I live my life doing what I do, so you should have the right to do whatever you want to do," he told The Huffington Post.

The 41-year-old musician - who embraced Rastafarianism and changed is name from Snoop Dogg last year - is one of a number of celebrities opposing the ban and hoping for it to be overturned. Seth MacFarlane wrote to his Twitter followers on Tuesday, "Supreme Court, stop acting like cowards. Now IS the time for a broad ruling to make the leap into the 20th century. --Sincerely, the 21st."

Snoop also spoke of his new culture, revealing he was "never nervous" about his time in Jamaica: "I'm never nervous. Always ready. Stay ready so I don't have to get ready. 'Nervous' has never been one of my traits. I like to be prepared and go do what I have to do. I love meeting pressure with performance."

Can We Expect a Return of the Fairness Doctrine?

Radio Tower

Following the Democrats’ capturing the White House and gaining 6 seats in the Senate and 19 in the House, there’s a good possibility we’ll see a revival of the so-called “Fairness Doctrine.” Sal alluded to this in one of his blogs, and I’d like to further elaborate.

From 1949-1987, the Fairness Doctrine ruled the broadcast industry. It was originally designed to ensure a “balance” of opinions over the airwaves when only three or four major networks dominated radio and the medium of television was still in its infancy. By the time the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), during the Reagan administration, abolished the Doctrine, cable and satellite TV had offered competitive alternatives to the big broadcast networks.

U. S. Supreme Court Building West Facade

With only a few short days to go before the November 4th presidential election, Attorney Philip Berg is appealing his “Obama eligibility” lawsuit to the U. S. Supreme Court. On Thursday, Berg filed a Writ of Certiorari and an application for an immediate injunction to stay the election. The story of the case, virtually absent from the mainstream media, is heavily detailed in Berg’s website, Obamacrimes.com.

Berg’s suit, Berg v. Obama, No. 08-cv-4083, had been dismissed in a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, federal court on the grounds that, as Berg states, “According to [federal] Judge Surrick, we the people have no right to police the eligibility requirements under the U. S. Constitution.”

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, NBC, News,

Project RunwayDespite Lifetime’s plans to unveil Project Runway this January, the reality hit’s future is now a big mystery. A New York Supreme Court judge has just temporarily blocked the reality program’s move to its new network.

This ruling comes months after The Weinstein Company announced it was ending Project‘s run on Bravo after five seasons. Believing the producers had violated a “right of first refusal” agreement, NBC Universal (Bravo’s parent company) filed suit. On Friday, the judge issued the preliminary injunction barring Lifetime from any marketing of the series until after the issue is settled.

Although NBC Universal was pleased by the ruling, the Weinsteins (who have vowed to appeal) also declared a minor victory. “We are glad that the court held that NBC Universal cannot exhibit the program on Bravo and that the court required NBC Universal to post a minimum $20 million bond,” a company statement read.

The season finale of ‘s current season will air on Wednesday, October 15. Meanwhile, production on the show’s sixth installment is scheduled to continue during the ongoing dispute.

Richard Hatch

The first reality TV-made millionaire, Survivor , is prepared to take his tax evasion case all the way to the Supreme Court…but that doesn’t mean the highest body of lawmakers in the land will have anything to do with him.

Richard Hatch was convicted in 2006 of the same crime which took down mob kingpin Al Capone - income tax evasion. Hatch was sentenced to serve four years in prison for failure to pay a portion of the $1 million prize he received from winning . But Hatch isn’t going to go quietly.
