Amazon selling Xbox Live Gold subscriptions for $29.97
We are gonna go out on a limb and say this is likely the best gaming deal you’ll see today. Over at Amazon, they are selling the 1-year Xbox Live Gold subscription at just $29.97. That’s a little over $20 off the standard price of $50 that most of us pay on a yearly basis to stay connected to the Xbox Live golden world, or in other words, a full 40% off. If you are nearing the end of your subscription, you’ll wanna grab one, certainly. Heck, I’m gonna pick up a few just so I can stay stocked up. At $30, why not?
Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first sale of its kind, as Buy.com was also pulling a similar stunt last week. Could we be seeing the beginnings of an Xbox Live Gold price drop? Maybe?

Netflix to Cease Selling Used DVDs

Netflix has decided to stop selling previously viewed DVDs. Some are as low as $5.99 and include such titles at that price as “Casino Royale,” “Into the Wild,” “Charlie Wilson’s War,” “American Gangster,” and “Spiderman 3.” Of course there will also be suggestions according to your previous favorites. After November 30, they will focus on simply renting. That’s fine with us. We love the fact that we can watch a film as often or as much as we want and not have extra DVDs taking up space.

Netflix Adds TiVo as Streaming Partner

Netflix has been busy, busy, busy. We already knew that Netflix will be available for Macs by the end of the year and on Xbox Live for Gold members next month, and now they have announced that they are adding TiVo as a partner that already includes LG, Microsoft and Samsung. You will be able to receive movies on your TiVo Series3, TiVo HD or TiVo HD XL. Testing has already begun and the service should be available to all by December.

Nokia Comes with Music Package to Debut in UK

Nokia has decided to launch its “Comes with Music” package in the UK first after making a deal with Carphone Warehouse. The arrangement allows users to permanently keep the music they have downloaded during the year on their 5310 XpressMusic Phone which will be offered in 8 Special Editions. Warner Music Group, Universal, and Sony BMG have all agreed to participate in the program that should begin next month. Contact Carphone if you live across the pond and would like to pre-register.

Sony BMG Joins UMG Subscription Service

Nokia must be pleased that Sony BMG has teamed up with the Universal Music Group to allow their subscribers to have access to their music catalog. They join companies such as A&M, Geffen Records, Decca, and Motown Records. The company’s “Comes With Music” program, which started up last December, allows some users, depending on the model of phone, to download any of their songs on their cell phones or computers. Those phones should become available in the 3rd Quarter of this year at as yet undisclosed prices. The UMG subscription service will allow downloaders to own the tunes after a year.

AT&T and Starbucks to Share America

It seems that coffee isn’t compatible with T-Mobile USA. AT&T will begin to distribute WiFi to 7,000 Starbucks in the U.S. Beginning sometime this spring, if you are an AT&T U-verse customer, you can get unlimited access. Starbucks Card holders get 2 hours a day free of charge. There are subscription and other deals available to allow access to its other 70,000 global “hot spots.” They will also be upgrading Starbucks’ network with a more extensive bandwidth.

Netflix subscribers on unlimited rental plans are now allowed endless streaming of movies on their PCs. Previously, the company offered a limited amount of viewing depending on a subscription rate, but it seems that now that it has a library of over 90,000 titles, this is their time to shine over the competition. If you now are on the $4.99 singular DVD Plan or 2 a month option, you will still receive two hours of instant streaming per month. It remains to be seen just how the competition will react to the news, not to mention the dwindling supply of local neighborhood video stores.

Blackberry to Offer Music in U.K.

Blackberry has announced that their latest phones, due out in November, will feature unlimited music. Omnifone, in cooperation with mobile device maker Vodafone, plans to debut the inexpensive service in November in the U.K. before releasing it to the rest of the planet. Customers will only pay a weekly fee of £1.99 (~$4.59) for the service that is about 10 million songs strong in 30 countries. This service will allow direct downloading even when on the go and may be adaptable to Vodafone mobiles and 2.5G and 3G handhelds without an upgrade.
