Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News,

Michelle Williams at this year's BAFTAsH&M's new luxury label will be called '& Other Stories.'

The Swedish company Hennes and Mauritz - which owns COS, Monki and Cheap Monday along with the high street retailer - have registered trademarks and a logo for the new brand.

"It is correct that H&M will launch a new chain in 2013 called & other stories, but this is all the available information we have as of today," said press officer Hacan Andersson. The company is said to be planning the new project after it launches its sustainable red carpet range, entitled the Exclusive Glamour Conscious Collection, on April 12. Designer Behnaz Aram, who joined the company's design team in August last year, is thought to be heading up the new luxury brand.

Michelle Williams has already shown her support for the Exclusive Glamour Conscious Collection line, wearing one of its monochrome floor-length gowns to the BAFTAs in February this year. "H&M approached Michelle Williams' stylist Kate Young and they showed great interest from the start. We felt that this was a fantastic opportunity and a new and exciting way to show our design," an H&M representative previously said, speaking about Michelle.

Dolce & Gabbana Sue Jewelry Retailer

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, News,

Stefano Gabbana and Domencio DolceDolce & Gabbana are suing a costume jewelry retailer for naming her store Dolce and Banana. The luxury Italian label have decided to take legal action against Mijou Beller - who has owned the shop in a fishing village near Cape Town, South Africa, for 12 years - after accusing her of "objectionable conduct" and of "diluting" the luxury brand's name.

The 300-page affidavit - which was filed in the Cape Town High Court by Cristiana Ruella, a board member of Gado, the holding company of Dolce & Gabbana - also alleges that "the name Dolce and Banana makes a mockery of the well-known trademark Dolce & Gabbana."Beller said she didn't have the means to fight the lawsuit, and responded by rebranding her store, calling it Banana.

The label's law firm Spoor & Fisher, which said Beller had ignored two previous warnings, the first one sent six years ago. She has tried to reach out to Stefano Gabbana by sending him a message on Twitter, that read, "Dear Stefano, please let us be. And visit us in Cape Town. I have always admired your famous sense of humor so present in your brand and in your designs. And although I appreciate that Dolce & Gabbana is a very successful commercial enterprise, I fail to understand why Dolce and Banana is a threat."

Jenny Packham Wants to Dress Cate Blanchett

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,

Jenny PackhamJenny Packham is desperate to dress Cate Blanchett.

The designer - whose celebrity fans include the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Beckinsale and Kate Winslet - is a huge fan of the Oscar-winning actress and says some of the items from her latest collection would be perfect for her.

"Cate Blanchett - she's the one we haven't dressed! The new collection is inspired by Film Noir - by the heroines in particular; the femme fatale - and she'd look perfect in it. Especially this silver backless dress," Jenny said when asked who she would like to work with.

While her designs are worn by many Hollywood A-listers, Jenny wants to make her creations more accessible to others, which is why she's teamed up with British high street chain Debenhams.

"Young girls - like friends of my daughter's - always ask if we do prom dresses, and we do dresses that would be lovely but $3,200 isn't realistic for most girls. The Debenhams collection will hopefully be great for that sort of event, because the price point is much lower. We often get brides asking about dresses for younger bridesmaids as well - although the collection has pieces for all ages. To be honest, I'm really excited to see how it sells when the launch comes. I'm working on my third collection for Debenhams now - for next summer - but nothing has gone on sale yet, so it will be great to see what's popular; what people really like."

Kardashians’ Dash to Move to Melrose Avenue

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: News,

Kardashian sistersThe Kardashians are set to open a clothing store on Melrose Avenue. Siblings Kim, Khloe and Kourtney will move their shop Dash, which has been based in Calabasas for six years to a huge 2,000-square-foot space at 8420 Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood because they think a better location will increase sales.

"We had our store since before we had a TV show. Fashion has always been number one, and we will always continue to focus on our store. If we have a better location, we will have better sales. I don't think our location was really ideal," Kim said.

While Kim believes the new location will help sales, she also believes the addition of her family's store to the area will increase visitor numbers to Melrose Avenue:"I think it will bring more foot traffic to Melrose, which I think will be good for the area. I don't really know about the paparazzi."

The Kardashians have Dash shops in Miami Beach and New York's SoHo and also have a celebrity lifestyle boutique called Kardashian Khaos in Las Vegas.

Olsen Twins Want to Launch Storefront

Mary-Kate and Ashley OlsenThe Olsen twins would love to open their own fashion shop. Mary-Kate and Ashley -- who co-run fashion ranges The Row and Elizabeth and James -- are keen to open their first store, but believe it is a big undertaking and are unsure when it might happen.

"I think every designer would say they'd love to open their own store, just because when you produce a collection, this whole room will be filled with God only knows how many racks and 150 pieces. What hits the stores is maybe ten pieces, in different colorway. So it would be nice to be able to represent it in your own way. But it's all a matter of timing and when it makes sense, and it's a really big undertaking, so it depends," said Ashley.

The 24-year-old identical twins are well known for their unusual style decisions, and Ashley admits a lot of their clothes are chosen because they don't want people to take their pictures while they are out in public: "That moment for us was us waking up, going to school, and not wanting anyone to take our picture. Kind of a piece of protection."

Olivia Palermo Signed as New Face of Mango

Olivia Palermo and Johannes HeublFrom a supporting friend

actress on The City, Olivia Palermo is moving her career up to modeling status as the new face of Mango. The 24-year-old beauty will star alongside model boyfriend Johannes Heubl in the campaign, which she admits was initially embarrassing to shoot.

“At first, it was really embarrassing - but then I remembered it was just him and I could be normal - so then it was really fun.”

However, she is unsure if the Spanish brand - which is also fronted by Scarlett Johansson and Poppy Delevigne - will show the shoot internationally. “I don’t know about that but I’m really pleased to have done it.”

It is not yet clear if she will design her own range of clothes for the store as former models and Milla Jovovich have done. Earlier this month, Olivia confessed she has a whole host of ambitions in the fashion industry: “I want to act, model, try it all. Designing a collection will come in time.”

“I play around with different styles. I don’t think I can wear the clothes I wore when I was 20, now that I’m 24,” she explained.

Lily Allen Selling Her Clothes in Vintage Shop

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, News, Sales,

Lily Allen on the cover of Elle UKShe may have been fired from Chanel, but Lily Allen isn’t letting that stop her from having a hand in the fashion business.

Allen, who’s on the cover of August’s Elle UK, revealed to the magazine that she plans on stocking her upcoming vintage store with her own clothes.

“[Throwing away clothes is] not ethical to do that, so I’m quite happy to turn it into a business and see other people having enjoyment out of it.”

Called Lucy in Disguise, the London-based vintage shop will make its debut at the Vintage at Goodwood before officially opening at its city location in September. I’m intrigued to fly across the pond, so long as the store isn’t filled with dresses like this.

And what about her designer duds? “When I’m buying expensive things I tend to think, ‘yep, that’s something timeless that I can give to my daughter.’” No harm in asking!

Bedbugs Shut Down Hollister SoHo Store

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: News, Rumors,

Hollister's SoHo storeWaves of Hollister fragrances aren’t the only thing you should be worried about when perusing the surf-happy store—you’ve got to steer clear of the bedbugs nowadays!

The retail chain, owned by Abercrombie & Fitch, recently shut its SoHo store down due to the infestation, which one spokesman said was only “affecting certain isolated areas of the store.”

Well, that’s not what an employee is saying: “The first report of bedbug bites in the store was three weeks ago by and employee and a manager, but that was ignored. On Tuesday the 29th, an employee found that she had been bitten, and also found a live bedbug and an exoskeleton on her borrowed Hollister outfit. All of the employees were forced to continue working even though more and more bugs were being discovered.”

Gotta love those corporate decisions.

The store’s closing is only temporary; the company says that it’s working hard to get rid of the bug problem.

JCPenney to Carry Mango Line

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, News, Rumors, Sales,

Mango storeSpanish-based clothing retailer Mango is moving into 600 JCPenney stores across the states by Fall 2010.

With both Charlotte Ronson and the Olsen twins stationing their own lines there, the department store seems to be making its way up the fashion industry ladder! While Mango has already set up 12 stand-alone shops in the US, it is nothing compared to its international number at 1,200; it is clear that the partnership is aimed at broadening its American presence.

Although the I Heart Ronson line isn’t too bad, there was nothing special about that line nor the Olsenboye range. This makes me wonder if Mango will be altering their clothes to fit the JCPenney look once they’re in the stores—the last time I ever step foot in the department store, I’m fairly sure I didn’t see any sweaters priced at $70.

Either way, I’m more concerned about having to prepare myself for a bombardment of Scarlett Johansson ads when I do my back-to-school shopping!
