Declaring victory over Starbucks on Twitter, he wrote, "We met the green monster, looked her in the eye, and...SHE BLINKED! We got it! Thank you Seattle! (sic)." He added, "I'm thrilled that we won and I'm even more excited about saving Tully's Coffee and its hundreds of jobs."

Tully's Coffee, which also has stores in Washington and California, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October. Recently, cycling made Patrick reveal his dreams of opening a cycling shop where other riders can go to hang out: "I'd love to open a bike shop in Mailbu that's a hangout for cyclists. Square Starbucks

We've gotta hand it to Square. The mobile payments company has just signed on its biggest partner to date--Starbucks. Yep, with the new deal, customers will be able to pay for their orders with the Pay with Square app in the US, which means they won't even need to bust out a card or cash. Square will also be processing all Starbucks credit and debit transactions. In addition to Square being accepted at Starbucks locations, the deal also sees Starbucks investing some $25 million as part of Square's current financing round. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz has even joined the Square board of directors. Yeah, this is a big deal. Other Square partners include FedEx, Staples, and Walgreens.

So, when will you be able to start paying with Square at Starbucks? The company will launch the functionality this fall across 7,000 US locations.

Pay with your smartphone at Starbucks nationwide

It looks like Starbucks will start offering a new way to pay for all that caffeine nationwide starting this week. Using an iPhone or Blackberry app called Starbucks Card Mobile, users will be able to use their phone as tender at 6,800 locations in the US. The app lets people add payment cards to it, and then simply scan their devices when they want to buy something. The program has been operating as a pilot at select locations, and the company believes customers will appreciate the easier and faster way to pay.

Starbucks Wi-Fi to go free starting July 1

Starbucks free wifi

Starbucks just announced that they are dropping their Wi-Fi fee starting on July 1. That’s right, Wi-Fi at all Starbucks locations will be free from July 1 on. In fact, as you can see in the tweeted announcement, it will be 1-click to log on, no registration required. Starbucks Wi-Fi is currently powered by AT&T, but going forward, the company will be partnering with Yahoo! to provide the free service to customers. This is a big move, since Starbucks is pretty much, well, everywhere.

Mix Tape: No Junos for Bieber, New Music from the Stones

Carly Simon-A judge has dismissed a lawsuit Carly Simon filed against Starbucks. The singer had accused the company of failing to promote her new album. (Starbucks backed out of the industry days before her CD was released.)

-Can’t a 16-year-old Canadian pop star get any respect? He may know how to get girls screaming, but Justin Bieber doesn’t know how to win a Juno Award. He was just shut out during this weekend’s ceremony.

-“Operation Save Chris Brown’s Image” has just entered its next phase: Raise money for Haiti. Brown is now scheduled to host “Virginia Stand Up! A Call to Action” on May 15 in Richmond.

-May 17’s re-release of Exile on Main Street will feature a number of never-before-heard Rolling Stones tracks including “Plundered My Soul,” “Dancing in the Light,” “Following the River” and “Pass The Wine.” “So Divine (Aladdin Story)” will also be used on the May 2 episode of Cold Case.

CoffeeCompany Curbs WiFi Freeloaders

CoffeeCompany Screen

We suspect there are a lot of people who hit up their local Starbucks to take advantage of the free WiFi and sip the same cup for hours. The Holland based CoffeeCompany has come up with an idea to curb the practice. They change the name of their network with such passwords as “HaveYouTriedCoffeeCake?,” “BuyAnotherCupYouCheapskate” and “BuyaLargeLatteGetBrownieForFree.” While the message is comical and subliminal, the guilt factor must be worth the effort.
