Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop, Software,

Software UpdateWe knew the first .1 update to OS X had to be coming soon enough, as there were just too many small niggles in the initial release that were bothering people, especially as it pertained to things like Back to my Mac, Finder, Time Machine, and Mail 3.0. Luckily, if you are running Leopard, you can now fire up Software Update to install 10.5.1. This update fixes 25 of the most pressing bugs seen in 10.5.0. We’ve included a list of all 25 after the break - check it out, and let us know how it goes for you. As for us, the update hasn’t fixed the Airport kernel panic that keeps taking our MacBook Pro down every 30-45 minutes or so. Thanks Apple!

10.4.10 Update

For the first time, has released 10.x.10 update to one of their operating systems, due likely to the delay of Leopard. In any event, if you are running OS X, kick Software Update into gear and download the new version. We are running Intel-based Macs, and the download weighs in at 49 MB exactly, and includes the following improvements:

  • RAW camera support
  • Mounting and unmounting external USB devices
  • Support for 3rd party software applications
  • Security updates

With that out of the way, we can now look forward to the release of OS X 10.5 Leopard. You can get the full scoop on the update straight from Apple at the link below.

Apple Backup 3.1.1 Released

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Software, Storage,

just pushed out an update to their Backup software, which they highly recommend for all Backup 3 users. On our MacBook Pro, the download was 5.5 MB, while on our Mac Pro it weighed in at 6.3 MB. Not bad at all, especially with the promise of backup and restore with external drives, better memory management, and improved restores of bundled file types. Apple, as always, has provided full details on the Backup 3 support page, linked below.

PS3 System Software Update Available At Launch

Playstation 3 A report from 1up indicates that Sony will have a software update for the Playstation 3 available at launch day in Japan. According to 1up, the update unlocks Playstation Network services for the console, and a future updates for both the Playstation 3 and the PSP will enable some security features and Playstation 3 and PSP interaction. When the later update hits, PSP users will be able to download PSP games from the Playstation Store via the PS3 and transfer them to the PSP and the “remote play” feature will be enabled. While consumers may be surprised to have to apply a system update out of the box, PSP users should be used to this by now and this generally appears to be part of Sony’s strategy as they slowly add features and usability to the console over its lifetime.
