VIDEO: New True Blood Teaser

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, HBO, Video,

With nearly just a month to go until the new season of True Blood returns, the showrunners continue to offer up even more delectable teasers on their YouTube page.

In the latest upload, Christopher Meloni of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit fame is unveiled as an upcoming vampire performing some type of ritual. IMDB lists his character as Roman, but the clip seems to indicate that he's also known as the Vampyr (we all know how important he must be if he spells the word in an exotic way). The all-important vampyr combined with the robes and dungeon setting gives me a bit of the Twilight Volturi vibe.

True Blood season 5 premieres on June 10.

Mumford and Sons Complete Album

Mumford and SonsMumford and Sons has finished recording their new album - but may not release it.

The group have been working hard on the follow-up to 2009's Sigh No More and admits they will scrap the record if it doesn't meet their high standards.

"We've done recording it but if we listen back while we're mixing and discover it's s**t then we'll just start again. We're not going to put it out until it's good enough," said keyboard player Ben Lovett.

The band are planning to play new tracks at their summer dates because they enjoy seeing the crowd's response to new material. "Playing the songs like helped shape them because we get to listen to them through the crowd's ears," banjo player Winston Marshall explained to NME magazine.

And the group are quick to reassure fans not to expect a radical departure from their previous material on the new album. "[Frontman] Marcus [Mumford] made a joke that the album wasn't doom folk and we don't really know why he did that. We'd just like to assure everyone that it is doom folk," Winston added.

Kickstarter: Soulless by Logan Giannini & George Kambadais

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials, Independent,

Soulless“When you wake up in a morgue drawer with a hole in your chest the size of a cantaloupe, it's only natural to have certain questions.”

Now that’s a first sentence that grabs my attention and it’s from writer Logan Giannini in his pitch for Soulless, a new Kickstarter project that’s illustrated by a friend of mine, George Kambadais.

Neill is the star of Soulless and after waking up in the morgue he sets out to uncover not just himself but what happened to him as well.

As Neill searches, according to writer Giannini, he “learns a great deal about the true nature of the people around him, from his girlfriend Sarah (who, it would seem, didn't exactly wait for Neill to be dead to start seeing other guys), to Neill's vampire friend Bradley (a name he hates), to a young ghost girl (with questions of her own) who's accompanied by a large gorilla and a parrot...”

Weekend Reading: Avengers, Overload, Don Bluth and John Cleese

The Avengers CastSo how many times are we all seeing The Avengers this weekend? And in how many ways is it the movie of the summer?

In honor of the new Avengers movie, Longbox Graveyard looks at the Kree/Skrull War, from Avengers #89-97. “Nearing the end of his iconic six-year stint on Avengers, Roy Thomas — along with artists Neal Adams and Sal & John Buscema — delivered what was up to then arguably the longest and most complex continuing story in superhero comics, as Earth became a battleground between the warring Skrull and Kree star empires.”

Kim Kardashian’s Lawyer Blames Kris for Divorce Delay

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Sports, Television, Divorce, Legal Issues,

Kris HumphriesKim Kardashian's lawyer says Kris Humphries' hurt feelings are delaying the couple's divorce. Kim filed legal papers in October to end their union after only 72 days of marriage and while she wants a divorce, Kris is seeking an annulment, with his lawyers asking for more time to gather information to decide whether to pursue allegations that the couple's marriage was a fraud.

However, the reality TV star's attorney Laura Wasser said they are eligible for a divorce since it has been more than six months since Kim filed her petition. "I feel that (Humphries') personal feelings and maybe some media drive is keeping this case alive. Certainly, they've been separated longer than they've been married," she said in court today.

The estranged pair are currently each footing their own legal fees but Ms. Wasser warned if the case goes to trial and Kim wins, she will ask that Kris pay her hefty expenses. Superior Court Judge Stephen Moloney told both sides to return to court on August 15 for a status hearing.

Quote Of The Day: Captain America

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials, Marvel Comics,

Willoughby Spit WonderHe scuffed directly to the wire magazine racks and twirled them till he located the comic books. He found the least-wrinkled copy of Young Men, which contained stories about the Sub-Mariner Captain America and the Human Torch. He took a minute to study its thrilling cover before carrying it and some war comics to the cash register.
The guy who rang him up said, “First one of those we sold all week. Nobody’s buying superheroes anymore.”
    “Not even Young Men?”
    “Not even Batman.”
Glancing back at the rack, Carter said, “That’s bad, huh?”
The guy handed him his change. “We’ll live.”

How To Write Comics The Fingeroth Way!

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials, Marvel Comics,

Danny FingerothHey, while you’re sitting on your butt Wednesday nights playing on the computer, you could be learning how to write comic books.

My good friend, Danny Fingeroth, is opening up his brain again and letting all the how-to out with his 5-part online course called Writing Comics And Graphic Novels. As a former Marvel editor - and one I hold in high regard - and comic book writer - ditto - it doesn’t get much better than this in the learning department. He's now the Sr. VP of Education at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in New York.
