Quote Of The Day: Dan DiDio on Before Watchmen

Before Watchmen

"I hope he looks at them with an open mind and a chance to understand this is a love letter to what he created, and more importantly that the strength of his work is allowing other people to grow and tell other stories which will hopefully inspire other creators along the way. In the way he was inspired by the creators when he was younger, we're hoping these ideas and these books are inspiring new people, so that we continue to grow the comics business as a whole."

Chloe Sevigny Often Gets Offered Masculine Roles

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories:

Chloe SevignyChloe Sevigny isn't "offended" she often gets asked to play masculine roles.

The Oscar-nominated actress has previously portrayed a butch-looking gay woman in If These Walls Could Talk 2 and can next be seen as a transgender hit-woman in Hit & Miss, but understands why she gets offered the roles because she has a manly face.

"I do feel like I have some masculine features. I've seen myself on screen and thought that I do look quite masculine. So I could see why they would think of me for this part. I wasn't offended."

Despite the unusual premise of the new British drama, Chloe does not believe it will be what they expected because it does not play up the transsexual aspect: "It's very lyrical, very poetic. It doesn't lean to camp in any way, shape or form. There's heightened realism here and there. But I think people are gonna be really surprised. They're gonna hear about this transsexual, transgender hit-woman ad they're gonna think it's one thing - and by the end of the first episode they'll realize this is not at all what they expected."

Weekend Reading: Avengers, Joe Simon, And Don Martin

Black WidowAnother sad week as noted comic book artist Ernie Chan passes away. As always, Mark Evanier has the best obituary, if ever an obit can be categorized that way.

Amanda Marcotte takes a look at The Avengers movie, specifically the male reviewers and their reactions to The Black Widow.

Another good catch by Daniel Best at 20th Century Danny Boy: a tale of stolen artwork involving Joe Simon and the FBI.

Comedy writer Paul Laikin (he wrote for MAD Magazine and was editor of Marvel’s Crazy) has passed away.

And speaking of MAD Magazine, I’ve never met anyone who didn’t like Don Martin’s work. Here’s a nice piece in honor of his birthday.

John Travolta Accused by Two More Men of Sex Abuse

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Legal Issues, Rumors,

John TravoltaJohn Travolta has been accused of sexual assault by two more men.

The Pulp Fiction star has now been accused of making unwanted sexual advances by seven men in total after two new accusers - a Miami-based masseur at the Eden Roc Resort called Jeff and a former hotel employee in Seattle - allege that the married actor groped them and solicited them for sex.

Jeff claims that John "started getting aggressive" when the masseur wouldn't do what the 58-year-old Hollywood star wanted during a massage in Miami in 2000, the New York Daily News reports.

The Seattle-based hotel worker alleges John touched his bottom after cornering him as he was cleaning up a guest room following a Qantas event in 2000. "He came up right behind me and grabbed my ass," he said.

Adele is Too Afraid to Sing at Glastonbury

AdeleAdele is too afraid to headline Glastonbury festival.

The "Someone Like You" singer has been hotly tipped to appear at the event in 2013, but organizer Michael Eavis says he can't convince her because she gets daunted by the number of people who attend the event, held in Somerset, Southern England.

"Adele knows that we want her anyway, but she doesn't want to do anything outside. She comes every year usually and has her own little party, but going on the pyramid stage is a bit daunting, playing in front on 80,000 people, it's a bit much," said Michael Eavis, speaking at the Ivor Novello awards.

Glastonbury is taking a year off to let its fields lie fallow, but when it returns next year, Michael said he's likely to invite Ed Sheeran - who has already performed at the festival a few times and took home Best Song Musically and Lyrically at the awards show - back.

Usher is Happy to be Part of Bieber’s Success

Usher and Justin BieberJustin Bieber's rise to fame reminds Usher of his own career.

The "Climax" singer is a mentor to the "Baby" hitmaker and revealed he loves being involved in 18-year-old Justin's career because it brings back memories of when he was first starting out.

"I relive every bit of it, from the screaming fans and the first reactions, shutting down the malls. The first reaction is like no other. To be able to be there, to be there with him and go through those emotions and see that shock for the first time [is exciting]," he told MTV.

Usher also explained he isn't worried about Justin going off the rails because he has good friends and supporters around him: "Cool part about it is, he's really able to live a dream that I think most teenagers would want to. To be able to have friends like [boxer Floyd] Mayweather. They are actual friends, hang out, talk. It's really cool to be able to have friends all around the world and people that can relate to your reality. I don't think Michael [Jackson] had people like that. I didn't have a ton of people like that. I had Puff [P. Diddy]. I had JD [producer Jermaine Dupri] ... but to be able to have friends all around the world that keep you, it's cool."

Jackie Chan Retiring from Action Movies

Jackie ChanJackie Chan is retiring from action movies.

The 58-year-old actor has confirmed that his latest film, Chinese Zodiac, will be his last as an action star as he thinks the world is becoming "too violent."

Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, where he is launching his new movie, Chan told reporters, "This will be my last big action movie. The world is too violent now. I love fighting but I hate violence."

Chan also wants to show film fans he can act in all types of movies, not just action ones: "I want the audience to know I'm not just about fighting, also I can act. And so day by day, year by year, I said, 'Right, I'm going to show you the real Jackie Chan.' I don't just want to be an action star, I want to be a true actor so for the last 10 years I've done other films like The Karate Kid where I'd rather play an old man."

Kristen Stewart Blasts Fake Screen Beauties

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Child Stars,

Kristen StewartKristen Stewart says people who "don't have the heart to back up their looks" are "ugly."

The Snow White and the Hunstman star has looked up to many people in Hollywood who turned out to be "fake" when she met them.

"If you don't have the heart to back up your looks, you are ugly. I've met so many people that I thought were so gorgeous and talented and amazing. And then you meet them for one second and you're like ... you are wearing a costume, you are a fake, you are so unattractive.' And it doesn't always come across in a picture, but you can be really beautiful in a still frame, and then, in life, moving around, you're ugly," she said, speaking about beauty.

The 22-year-old actress describes herself as particularly "intense," but admits her fun side does occasionally surface too: "Yeah, I'm still a very intense person. I'm chilled out about some things. I'm cool. But definitely, I take things far too seriously. I am just a serious person. I love joking around, and it's obviously about mood, because sometimes I can definitely be a silly idiot. But most of the time I am like [private]. And I'm overtly aware of f***ing everything [up]."

Kanye West Overwhelmed by Kardashian Family

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Television, Dating,

Kanye West and Kim KardashianKanye West was overwhelmed when he first met Kim Kardashian's family.

The "Stronger" hitmaker was surprised by how "loud" his girlfriend's two sisters, two half-sisters, brother, mother and step-father were when he first hung out with her loved ones, and Kim's elder sibling Khloe Kardashian - who is married to basketball star Lamar Odom - has joked she found him hiding in the pantry.

"He said, 'I'm an only child; there's, like, so many of you.' I remember Lamar, at first it took him a minute to get used to us, but now Lamar loves it. With Kanye I was like, 'Why are you hiding in our pantry in my mom's kitchen?' And he's like, 'There's just so many of you guys, and you guys are all so loud and friendly and talk.' And I'm like, 'Get used to it buddy, because I like it.' It's just a lot at one time," she said.
