Smartphones assist buying decisions for 36% of shoppers

in store shopping apps

The customer service of online shopping. The convenience of a physical store. It might not seem like a winning combination, but the number of people turning away from sales representatives and towards digital apps is rising-- even in brick and mortar stores.

A recent study conducted by financial analytics firm Deloitte has found a massive jump in in-store sales conducted with or aided by mobile and digital technologies. From 2012 to 2013 mobile devices jumped from playing a key role in 5 percent of sales to 19 percent. The use of digital devices in these transactions leaped from 14 percent to 36 percent.

When people go into stores today with a smartphone, they can look up products, reviews, prices and competitors. In the past, you had to make do with a sales representative, and with that the dealer's agenda- to push a product. Half the time I go into a store I do all my research on the spot, whipping out my iPhone to aid my shopping trip.

Tori Spelling Hasn’t Bought a Purse in 3 Years

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities,

Tori SpellingTori Spelling hasn't bought a purse in three years.

The 40-year-old actress - who has four children, Liam, six, Stella, five, Hattie, two, and Finn, 14 months, with her husband Dean McDermott - admits her money problems have got so bad that she hasn't been able to treat herself like she used to do when she was younger, but she's learned cash isn't the most important thing.

"I haven't bought a purse in three years. And it's fine. I look back on that girl who shopped at Gucci in my 20s and I can't even relate. I can't believe I thought it was important," she said, peaking to People magazine.

The former 'Beverly Hills 90210' star - who is currently renting a modest home in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles - reportedly inherited $800,000 from her TV producer father, Aaron Spelling, who died in 2006, but she blames her childhood for her lack of money awareness. Writing in her new memoir, Spelling It Like It Is, she said, "It's no mystery why I have money problems. I grew up rich beyond anyone's dreams. I never knew anything else. Even when I try to embrace a simpler lifestyle I can't seem to let go of my expensive tastes. And then there's my shopping problem. I've bought ridiculous amounts of stuff for the kids, clothing, toys, crafts."

Prince Harry Spotted Shopping at Discount Retailer

Prince Harry at TK MaxxLike the rest of us commoners, it looks as though Prince Harry can't resist a good deal when he sees one, either.

Dressed inconspicuously in a cap, plain sweater, and blue jeans, the 28 year-old looked like any other customer when he was photographed shopping at British designer discount store TK Maxx (known as TJ Maxx on our side of the Atlantic). The British royal must have been taking cues from his sister-in-law, Duchess Catherine, who is known for recycling her clothes and mixing high fashion labels with more affordable pieces.

Having spent 30 minutes in the store - where, according to other customers, he was "relaxed and chatty" - Harry emerged with "T-shirts, a hoodie, other clothing and an iPhone case" in a plastic bag (clearly not opting for being very green that day).

Though it's not a stretch to see the Duchess shopping at such a store considering her more humble background, it is rather nice to see that even a prince isn't above saving some cash!

Decide.com launches Decide Score ranking alongside price forcasting

Decide.com Scores

We've covered Decide before--it's the shopping search engine that's focused on telling you when you should buy certain products, based on when they'll be cheapest. For example, if you are looking to buy a Panasonic Lumix ZS20 camera, Decide would tell you if now is a good time, or if you should wait a week or two, when the price is expected to drop. They even stand behind their predictions with a money-back guarantee.

One complaint that we had about the service was that, sure, it was easy to recommend products based on pricing trends, but that didn't mean that the product was a good one. Maybe someone has received a significant price drop simply because no one wanted it because it didn't perform as expected. It wouldn't be the first time. Today Decide is aiming to plug that hole with its new product recommendations service.

Decide for iPad

We're always on the hunt for a good deal, which is why we're fans of Decide. The site finds the best deals on electronics and appliances, and through its algorithm, predicts when you should buy things based on price trends. Recently, Decide launched its "Got Your Back" feature, which suggests 10 products at bargain basement prices. If you buy one and the price drops within the next two weeks, Decide will pay you the difference, for free.

Today the company continues its roll with the release of the Decide iPad app. It's basically everything you already love about Decide (and if you don't use them, you should,) optimized for the iPad. Yes, that includes high-resolution Retina display graphics as well. It's a beautiful app, and it's available now on the App Store for free.

I spent some time at the Decide offices earlier this week--great people over there, and we look forward to what the future holds for the company.

Decide Got Your Back

Decide is one of the sites we recommend people visit when they're unsure about a gadget purchase (and they also gave one of you an iPhone 4S at launch.) They've helped many people determine whether they should pick up a certain digital camera or smartphone, or if they should wait a few weeks due to an impending new model set to hit the scene (or a price drop that's right around the corner.) Today, the company launches a new product that aims to give you a bit of confidence in that you are getting the best price out there, period.

PinkPink has forked out $5,000 to save a puppy's life. The "Raise Your Glass" hitmaker - who has a six-month-old daughter Willow with her husband Carey Hart - splashed out on emergency life-saving surgery for the mystery pooch which had been left for dead after being thrown in a Los Angeles river.

According to TMZ.com, sources revealed the puppy had suffered three broken legs as a result of the incident, but Pink got in contact with the Ace of Hearts animal rescue organization and offered to pay for the canine's medical expenses after reading about it on the internet. The dog's operation was successful and it has now been adopted by a loving family.

Meanwhile, Pink has fully embraced the Christmas spirit and admits she has been much more successful buying presents for her friends and family this year compared to 2010.
