Netflix to add Miramax titles to Watch Instantly starting in June

Netflix on Monday announced that it has inked a multi-year agreement with Miramax that will add some of the movie studio's most popular films to Netflix's Watch Instantly platform.

This deal marks the first time that Miramax movies have been available through a digital subscription service, Netflix said.

Starting June, subscribers will be able to access movies Pulp Fiction, Shakespeare in Love, The English Patient, Good Will Hunting, Bad Santa, Scream, Spy Kids, The Piano, and Kill Bill. Netflix will add "hundreds" of Miramax titles, which will be added to Watch Instantly on a rotating basis, the company said.

"From day one, we've been very clear about the importance of digital and our desire to respond to the significant pent-up demand for our films—delivering to consumers whenever and wherever they want," Mike Lang, CEO of Miramax, said in a statement. "This agreement is an important first step in our digital strategy. Netflix has always been a trailblazer, with a tremendous track record of innovation and quality customer service. We're thrilled to now be in business with them as we build and revitalize the proud Miramax brand."

Neve Campbell, Wes Craven Talk Scream 4

 


Scream 4, according to actress Neve Campbell, will be both “very scary” and “very funny.” Campbell went to to say that writer/director "Wes Craven is brilliant."

Craven himself is expressing excitement about the flick as we draw closer to its April 15 release date. It seems even the day is meant to poke a little scary fun at audiences -- because what’s more terrifying than the day everyone’s income tax returns are due? “The young cast brings a whole different world to [the Scream franchise] and a whole different take on horror,” Craven said.

“It’s a lot about looking back on the last ten years of horror and comparing it and contrasting it and having fun with it,” he said. And nobody has as much fun with horror as Wes Craven.

Scream 4 Trailer Debuts at Scream Awards

Scream Queens: Kristen Bell, Anna Paquin

Scream 4The cast of Scream 4 has room for all, it seems - including an Oscar winner and the girl next door.

Anna Paquin and have both been confirmed to the cast of the horror flick, joining Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox-Arquette, David Arquette, Hayden Panettiere and Adam Brody on the set.

Dimension Films has offered no hints on the characters Paquin and Bell will play, but we do know that will play Jill, the film’s heroine (and therefore, least likely to be brutally murdered onscreen).

The movie will be released in April 2011.

Scream 4: The Scream series is known for killing off beautiful young starlets, so the the fourth installment should make no exceptions. So far Emma Roberts and Hayden Panettiere have both been confirmed for Scream 4. Roberts will play Sidney Prescott’s cousin while Panettiere has reportedly been cast as the best friend. Independence Day: If I didn’t know any better, I’d say Roland Emmerich flat out hates this planet. The director of The Day After Tomorrow and and 2012 is now talking about a follow-up to his 1996 hit, Independence Day. Emmerich says his proposed idea would see vets Will Smith (another lover of sequels) and Bill Pullman years after the first disaster. “One day we will do it,” Roland claimed.

X-Men: Although it’s been six years since X2, Bryan Singer says he may not be done with the comic book franchise. The director recently revealed that he’s entertaining the thought of another installment. “I’m still looking to possibly returning to the X-Men franchise. I’ve been talking to Fox about it,” Singer said. “I love Hugh Jackman. I love the cast,” he admitted. Brett Ratner was at the helm for 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand while Gavin Hood directed 2009’s Wolverine.
