Jason Wu’s Feminine Scent

Jason WuJason Wu wanted his first scent reflect his "design aesthetic."

The designer launched his debut candle in March - which is a mix of rare orchids infused with a bit of Asian pear - and he says he was keen for the smell to represent his other creations.

"Florals play an important role in my designs. So for my first fragrance, I wanted to create a floral scent that would reflect my feminine design aesthetic," he said.

Jason shot to fame after designing the dress Michelle Obama wore for her husband's inaguration as president and recently said he has "a connection" with the people he is creating clothes for: "I think it's important to have a connection with the person you're dressing. Fashion is so personal and I put a lot of me into everything that I do."

Jason's strong work ethic hasn't changed despite his fame, and he still adds a personal touch to all the garments he produces: "I'm so hands on. I'm on my knees doing the fitting all the time, for every single fitting. I don't want to miss any part of it, because that's why I'm in this industry. I wanted to do that."

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Celebrities, Videos,

Jennifer Aniston perfume

Women may want to look like Jennifer Aniston, but they might not want to smell like her.

Sales of the actress' first perfume -- Jennifer Aniston (formerly named Lolavie) -- have reportedly dropped off since debuting earlier this year. Some claim Aniston's lack of promotion is to blame.

"It's absolutely not true," Jennifer's rep said in response to the finger-pointing. "The fragrance was launched specifically for Harrods [in London] and Jennifer went there personally to launch it and to do press."

Fragrant Future for Queen Latifah

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Celebrities,

Description‘s been a rapper, an actor, a CoverGirl spokeswoman and a Jenny Craig user. A fragrance creator was the natural next step.

By venturing into the world of perfume, the Oscar nominee joins the ranks of a million other celebrities before her. How will Queen by Queen Latifah differ from the rest? Well, the Parlux Fragrances scent will combine notes of notes of mandarin, jasmine, cognac, Moroccan coriander and Egyptian musk. (Based on the description, it might just make a nice wine as well.)

When asked why she delved into the aromatic industry, Latifah gave the typical crafted response. “Beauty really does start on the inside. It’s like a state of mind, a state of love, if you will. So I see a fragrance as just a natural expression of this state of love: Scent expresses a woman’s confidence and sensuality, it’s how she embraces her body, her mind and her strength,” she claimed. Blah, blah, blah. One day, I dare someone to say “Because I know what smells good, and it ain’t you.”

A 1.7 oz bottle of the fragrance will sell for $49 when it hits stores in August.

Aromatherapy, fragrance oils and other yummy scented thing

Posted by Colleen McKie Categories: Advice,

There are several studies floating out there that make the connection between certain scents and well being.  Cinnamon, vanilla and pumpkin pie are known to relax.  Other scents, such as orange and grapefruit are thought to stimulate the mind.  Each of us has certain scents that help relax us and others that might kick in the flight or fight in us or bring on feelings of sadness.  Usually these scents are closely associated with an important memory we’ve stored in our minds. aromatherapy

Aromatherapy, on the other hand, is more scientifically based.  Certain essential oils can help with a wide variety of ailments.  Lavender, peppermint neroli, rosemary, eucalyptus and a whole slew of other essence oils can help with stress, concentration depression, headaches, congestion and other ailments.

There are two basic ways that you can use an essential oil: inhale or apply directly.  For example, if you have a head cold, boiling some water, adding a drop or two of eucalyptus and then inhaling the steam can clear you out.  Rubbing some lavender on your temples can help relieve a headache.  You can get the same level of relief as with over the counter meds, but without putting drugs into your system.

I am a huge fan of scented candles and I almost always have one or two burning.  I also have oil burner and by adding just a drop or two of my favorite essence oil, not only do I make my house smell great, but I also get the benefit of the aromatherapy.
