Jonathan Saunders Already Excited For London Fashion Week

Jonathan SaundersJonathan Saunders can’t wait to show his Fall/Winter 2010 collection in London this February.

The Scottish fashion designer, who is based in the British capital city, is excited about exhibiting his upcoming collection next year because he “loved” London Fashion Week in September so much.

“I’m going to show in London again in February; I just loved showing here in September. It’s much easier than New York because I’m still based in London, and I always will be.”

Although he couldn’t live in the US, Jonathan is adamant he will return to New York to show his range later in the year to help boost sales: “I will go back to show in New York next autumn. It’s just such a huge country - and nationwide stores like Saks and Barney’s give you such huge reach. It’s good for a business.”

The trendsetter, whose celebrity fans include Thandie Newton and Sienna Miller, has also described the closeness between the new British designers.

Christopher Kane is amazing at what he does. He and I came to London and set up our businesses without the financial support from our parents that some designers have. We all come to what we do with a love to fashion. Richard Nicoll was in my class at university, Chris was two years below, Louise Gray I’ve known since we were in Scotland. We all support each other.”

Michael Kors: Recession Survivor

Michael KorsMichael Kors has survived the recession so far because his clothes are “seasonless.”

The American fashion designer believes sales of his clothing line have not faltered during the credit crunch because he has always worked hard to make sure his designs don’t become out-of-date.

“What has happened with the economy has re-enforced the things that I always thought. The idea that something should be unexpected but at the same time timeless, the fact that I think that most clothes should be seasonless. Things have to be versatile.”

However, Michael - who became a household name after appearing on fashion program Project Runway and whose celebrity fans include Michael Douglas - admits those wealthy enough to splash out on designer clothing must make sure they don’t look “obnoxious.”

“It is appropriate to look rich, if you do it without looking obnoxious. If you’re wearing something colorful, keep the line simple. If you’re wearing something ornamented, keep the shape sleek. Right now, to have over-the-top hair and a beaded dress and an over-the-top shoe and a lot of jewelery all at once, it’s too much.”

Dedicated Designer Emma Watson

Emma Watson for People TreeOverseeing designs and adding input is serious work. That just may be why Emma Watson attended every design meeting for her fashion range.

The Harry Potter actress has teamed up with People Tree for a new ethical clothing range and was keen to have as much input into the collection as possible.

Antony Waller at People Tree said, “Emma attended every single design meeting over the five-month process. She doesn’t want to be known as a designer but wanted to give her input and ideas wherever she could.”

Emma, 19, wanted to launch a fashion range aimed at 16 to 24-year-olds, but wanted to do something that was environmentally-friendly.

Anthony added, “Emma has a big interest in fashion but she’s also passionate about the environment and humanitarian causes. She approached us directly about creating a line to combine these two ideas. Obviously she is the target buyer age herself so she can relate to them and knows what they want to wear.”

Christopher Kane and His Pizza Disaster

Christopher Kane's flat almost burned down over pizzaChristopher Kane almost burned his house down after his fashion show on Monday!

The Scottish designer, who has made costumes for Kylie Minogue, was extremely tired and hungry after showcasing his latest designs at London Fashion Week, but his boyfriend’s attempts at feeding them nearly ended in disaster.

“I was knackered when we got back to the flat so I went to bed. My boyfriend put a pizza in the oven, because we were all starving, but then he fell asleep too. I woke up and thought, ‘Why can I smell burning pastry?’ It was the pizza and there was smoke everywhere. It’s OK now but I still haven’t eaten. I’m starving.”

Christopher is also looking forward to having a relaxing holiday in the next few weeks: “Well, we’ll show the collection this week to a few key people and then we’re off to Paris for sales. There’s a lot to do just now but in a few weeks we’ll go on holiday. I don’t know where yet—I don’t care really, as long as it’s hot!”
