Couples With The Worst On-Screen Chemistry

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Lucasfilm Ltd., Casting, Lists,

Star WarsChemistry, schmemistry.  If you know people are going to be watching your movie anyway—does it really matter?  Whaddya say, ?

Film advertising company Pearl & Dean polled 3,000 British moviegoers to see which couples they felt had the worst on-screen chemistry.  Based on the results, it’s hard to say whether or not those opinions had any affect on the eventual box office receipts.  While I completely agree that Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen fizzled as secret-lovers, I don’t know that the movie’s storyline (or final numbers) could have improved with a different twosome.

Take a look at the poll results and see what you think.  Which couples would you add to this list?  Three pairings that come to my mind:  / Nick Nolte (I Love Trouble), Julia Roberts/ Brad Pitt (The Mexican) and Julia Roberts/ John Cusack (America’s Sweethearts).

  1. Natalie Portman & Hayden Christensen - Stars Wars: Episode II
  2. Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck - Gigli
  3. Keira Knightley & Orlando Bloom -
  4. Madonna & Adriano Giannini - Swept Away
  5. Catherine Zeta-Jones & Sean Connery - Entrapment
  6. Andie MacDowell & Hugh Grant - Four Weddings and a Funeral
  7. Kate Beckinsale & Ben Affleck - Pearl Harbor
  8. & - Eyes Wide Shut
  9. & -
  10. & - Titanic

Reese and Ryan’s Romance

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Gossip, Rumors,

Reese WitherspoonAcademy-award winning has been stealing cinematic hearts since she appeared, with Marky Mark, in Fear. It was only natural this blonde hottie would hook up with a tow-headed hunk, and the marriage between Reese Witherspoon and seemed to be made in Hollywood. Then, the break up. But could this gorgeous pair of exes be working toward reconciliation? According to the gossip columnists, the two are attempting to work out their difficulties and have been dating in secret – being quite careful not to get caught in the act. Press reps for both camps did not comment on the possibility, which isn’t to say it doesn’t exist. Press reps can be terribly close-mouthed at times. So, if Reese really is working it out with Ryan…where does that leave her with Jake Gynllenhaal, the up-and-coming Hollywood hottie who’s been seen in her frequent company?

Famed Romance Author Kathleen Woodiwiss Turns Her Last Page

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Talent, Gossip, News,

Book Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, the author responsible for a bevy of best-selling, steamy romance titles, has passed away at the age of 68. The writer’s first book, The Flame and the Flower, was an instant best seller in 1972, and Woodiwiss has been turning out regular titles ever since. Woodiwiss died of cancer in Minnesota last Friday, according to son Sean. Over the past thirty-five years, Woodiwiss published thirteen novels – every single one of which made it to the New York Times best seller list. Woodiwiss was known for turning out detailed, thick novels in the 600-page range, setting her apart in an industry that was known for much skinnier volumes. She received a lifetime achievement award from the Romance Writers of America in 1988. Her last book, Everlasting, will hit the shelves in October 2007.

The Illusionist DVD Review

Illusionist Poster

The Illusionist takes place in early 20th–century Vienna, where young Eisenheim (Edward Norton), a poor but brilliant magician, falls for a wealthy duchess (Jessica Biel).  Fearing societal ridicule, her family forbids the relationship and the lovers become separated for many years.  When the duchess is engaged to Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus Sewell), Eisenhiem must use his unique skill to regain her heart, distract the nosy Chief Inspector Uhl (Paul Giamatti), and escape the vengeful wrath of the crown prince.  The Illusionist is a focused and introspective story that, unlike its ‘prestigious’ rival, uses mystical effect to flesh out, not upstage, a powerful tale of love.

The Illusionist is directed by Neil Burger and based on a short story by Steven Millhauser.  Rated PG-13.
