Michael Fassbender Open to RoboCop Role

Michael FassbenderMichael Fassbender wants to "take a look" at the RoboCop script.

The Shame actor has been linked to the role in a remake of the classic 1987 movie - starring Peter Weller as a former policeman who is murdered and re-created as a crime-fighting cyborg - by director Jose Padilha, and he reveals he would consider taking part in the film if he could see the story.

"You know, I'm always open. I'll take a look at the script and sit down with the director and have a conversation. It's not definitely like, 'Oh, I've got to play RoboCop before I retire.' I don't have that about anything. I don't go, 'I have to play the Dane one day, or Hamlet.' I don't really think like that. I just wait and see what comes up, and I'm always open to it. If I react to the script, then I'm up for anything."

Michael - who has previously played Magneto in X-Men: First Class - also reveals he would be keen to wear the iconic outfit worn by the robotic character: "It could be kind of fun. It could be kind of good to have a helmet that I could hide behind for most of the film too, that sounds kind of appealing."

Bar Owner Builds Robocop

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Misc. Tech, Science,

Robotic GuardIn downtown Atlanta, Rufus Terrill didn’t like some of the folk who were hanging around his bar, O’Terrills, so he built himself a simplified robocop which he controls by remote. Consisting of an old meat smoker that he says still smells like chicken, a spotlight, an IR cam, a water cannon and a loudspeaker, the bot stands 4 feet tall and weighs 300 lbs. Apparently the silly looking device is working since Terrill says there is a lot less “action” going on near his tavern. Check out the video to see it put through its paces.

This Week on HD DVD and Blu-ray: October 9, 2007

28 weeks later logo

The war between Blu-ray and HD DVD rages on, but this week the battle looks particularly one-sided.

HD DVD has only one exclusive release this Tuesday (and not even a very good one), which can’t counter-balance the nine exclusive Blu-ray titles.  Now, one could see this as merely a slow week for the format’s proponents—Universal has the one title, and Paramount has zilch—or maybe Fox, Sony and MGM have simply realized that the holidays are fast approaching, and that … well, this is a war! Whatever the case, HD DVD loyalists will find little to drool over this week. As for the Blu-ray fans, they’ll find three day-and-date releases plus a high-def 28 Days Later to supplement its impressive new-release sequel.

Have a look at this week’s HD releases after the jump.
