Apple sells 5 million iPhone 5 units in first weekend

iPhone 5 shipping boxes 5 million

The 5 in the iPhone 5 must mean 5 million devices, because that is exactly what Apple has announced that it sold during the opening weekend launch of Cupertino's latest and greatest tech device.  Current sales shattered previous records of former generation iPhones. Additionally, Apple announced that 100 million iOS devices have upgraded to iOS 6 in the five days that it's been available. That's 25% of all iOS devices sold, in five days.

“Demand for iPhone 5 has been incredible and we are working hard to get an iPhone 5 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “While we have sold out of our initial supply, stores continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly and customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough iPhone 5s for everyone.”

Some analysts are saying that the estimates could be much higher since some iOS devices are still in transit and have not been activated, thus, are not accounted for in the total amount.

James Bond Release Date Confirmed

Daniel Craig as James Bond

James Bond is to return to movie screens next year.

Daniel Craig will reprise his role as the suave British spy in the 23rd screen adventure in November 2012, after the film was finally given the go-ahead, nine months after it was originally shelved amid money problems for studio MGM.

Sam Mendes will direct the film, while legendary actress Dame Judi Dench is believed to be returning as M. Frost/Nixon actor Michael Sheen has reportedly been approached to play the villain while a Bond girl to play opposite heartthrob Craig is yet to be decided.

"I think I'm going to be needed in spring of 2011. That's a message I got," Judi previously said.

Actor Simon Russell Beale has been linked with a role after being watched twice by Bond producer Barbara Brocolli in his current West End play Deathtrap - and is also playing King Lear in 2012 under the direction of Sam Mendes. "Every actor wants to be in Bond and I'd love to be a baddie," he recently said.

The script, meanwhile, is being penned by regular contributors Neal Purvis and Robert Wade along with John Logan who worked on Hollywood hits Gladiator, The Aviator and The Last Samurai. Shooting will start later this year and its release will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the first Bond film, Dr No.

Redding Yanked from Rockies

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB,

Tim ReddingThe Yankees have added some more depth to their system, as they signed free agent Tim Redding to a minor league contract. That’s right, the same Tim Redding who woke up as a member in the Colorado Rockies organization, was released outright and went to bed waiting for his name to be stitched onto the back of a Yankees uniform. It’s not the traditional way to see a player switch allegiances, but as long as he still has a job, Redding surely won’t complain.

Court Date Set for Watchmen Lawsuit

Court sets date for Watchmen trialWhile most Watchmen fans only had the film’s release countdown to consider, a new development in the Watchmen copyright lawsuit has added a new date to watch out for: January 6.

U.S. District Court Judge Gary Allen Feess assigned the date for the case, which is set to decide whether or not Fox does hold the rights to the Watchmen movie. Between the January 6 court date and the film’s scheduled March 6 release, let’s hope that things go in the fans’ favor and they settle this between that time.

If the case goes according to Fox, fans of the highly-anticipated Zack Snyder film will never see that March 6 release happen, which could very well happen come January.

The dispute goes back to 1991, when Fox “quitclaimed” its right to Alan Moore‘s acclaimed graphic novel to Largo Entertainment, with an agreement that the production company was to release the movie under the big studio (if not, Largo Entertainment was to buy the rights through an agreed buyout formula from Fox).

Watchmen Fans Protest Fox’s Lawsuit

Fox attempts to stop Watchmen movie's releaseEven though the much-anticipated film’s premiere is not scheduled until March 6, true Watchmen fans are not taking any chances with Fox’s plans to completely prevent the release.

ComicBookMovie.com has organized a petition in hopes that the people over at Fox change their minds about touching the classic graphic novel’s film adaptation. One fan named Wyatt Barlup is even planning to picket the Fox lots with like-minded, passionate comrades.

There are even those that are on the offense: readers at Comics2Film.com have suggested taking action against Fox‘s upcoming films The Day the Earth Stood Still and X-Men Origins: Wolverine by calling for a boycott. Whoever knew real life drama could be better than fiction!

Why such extreme action, one might ask? Well, probably the fact that Fox isn’t planning on settling this—the studio heads don’t want to see Zack Snyder‘s film released, period.

Valkyrie Gets a New Release Date

Tom Cruise, ValkyrieAfter weeks and weeks of delayed production, the upcoming Tom Cruise film has a new release date. Now, the flick is scheduled to hit theaters February 13, 2009. Considering the subject matter, I’m sure it’s the perfect film for any romantic date…if you’re both into WWII.

Called “The Big One,” WWII is perhaps one of the most popular filmmaking subjects in all the world. This era is constantly re-visited in movies and many major Hollywood directors and actors have taken it on. The latest to do so is Tom Cruise, who has been somewhat absent from the movie scene lately.

So far, much of the buzz on the flick is negative. Many claim the film is terrible, which has prompted Cruise co-star Bill Nighy to step forward in the interests of damage control. Nighy, who will play General Friedrich Olbricht, says the movie has suffered from several production issues - but that’s the only thing wrong with the film. “We just shot some extra scenes,” Nighy told the press recently. “People are very excited about it.”
