Toddler Buys Excavator Online

A couple in New Zealand woke up one morning only to discover that their 3 year-old had accidentally bought a $NZ20,000 Industrial Excavator from the site Trade Me. Mother Sarah Quinlan said that she had received an email from them saying that they hope she loved the mechanical digger. Claiming her daughter doesn’t even like tractors, she managed to convince the seller to take it back. Daughter Pipi has been banned from the computer when alone and her parents removed their auto-login. We think that is one precocious little girl and can’t wait to see what she can do once she is old enough to have her own.

Google To Buy Twitter?

Rumor has it that Google may be buying Twitter. Michael Arrington of TechCrunch reports that he has two unnamed sources who say that they are in the late stages of negotiations. Twitter already turned down an offer from Facebook, although that deal involved overvalued stock. Google plans on paying cash and/or public stock. We guess that this is a win-win for both. Twitter founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone have already sold Blogger to Google and considering that tweeting is more popular all the time, this will involve big profits down the line.

Cisco to Purchase Pure Digital

Cisco Systems has announced that it is buying Pure Digital for about $590 million in stock. The company has enough cash for investing in such companies and CEO John Chambers said that a weak economy can mean a good opportunity. Pure Digital has only been around for about 2 years and about 2 million Flips have already been sold. In a kind move, Cisco is offering stock incentives for employees who stay with the company.

Meet Sirius XM

Sirius has finally completed their acquisition of XM. The company will now be called Sirius XM Radio (duh) and will consist of 18.5 million subscribers. They will have more exclusive programming in addition to Howard, Oprah, and Martha. Users have the option of maintaining their current packages, but it remains to be seen if SXM can get new $13.00 subscriptions and radio sales with the economy being the way it is. We think consumers may opt for a couple more gallons of gas instead.

After a couple of frustrating days fighting with a flaw in password entry fields in the newly released iPhone software version 1.1.1, Gear Live has finally gotten the chance to probe the inner depths of the iTunes WiFi Music Store. The new WiFi Music Store brings mobile media impulse buys to the millions of iPhone users all packaged up in the typical Apple fashion: sexy, easy to use, and slick as glass. While my experiences with the WiFi Music Store were not 100% positive it’s definitely off to a stunning start and has great potential. Apples iTunes WiFi Music Store: trouble in paradise?

Yesterday morning brought Apple‘s iPhone Update version 1.1.1 which included a bevy of new features including the slick new WiFi music store for the iPod Touch and the iPhone. The WiFi music store lets users purchase songs on-the-go using any WiFi hotspot which essentially puts the entire multi-million track library of iTunes in your pocket - perfect for a quick impulse buy from time to time.
Unfortunately not all users are able to get the shiny new storefront to work. Several of the iPhone owning editors at Gear Live were able to update their iPhone and use the WiFi music store successfully - I was not. Worse yet I don’t appear to be alone as other users have reported similar problems on the internet. Click through the jump for full details on why the iTunes WiFi music store isn’t working for us.

NBC Leaves Apple, Turns to Amazon

After severing ties with Apple, NBC Universal has forged a relationship with Amazon.com. So fans in need of a missed show can now turn to Amazon’s ‘Unbox’ service for their fix. NBC claims this new partnership allows for more pricing flexibility and packaged content.
To whet your appetite, the network will be allowing fans to download for free pilots of their new fall shows (including those for Bionic Woman, Chuck and Life). Interestingly enough, later episodes will then be available for $1.99 (the same price made familiar by iTunes).
Be looking for those new pilots come next Monday (September 10th).
