Virgin’s Project Magazine
Posted by Patrick Lambert Categories: News, iPad Apps, $2.99, Free Apps,
Richard Branson and Virgin have released Project, which is now available in the App Store for iPad devices running the latest version of iOS. Managing to beat News Corp and their upcoming periodical The Daily, Virgin promotes their magazine as "a revolutionary multimedia magazine built specially for your iPad – packed with international culture, entertainment, design, business and travel." While the app itself is free, each magazine will cost you $2.99, and comes out once a month.
The magazine itself looks similar to other magazines available for the iPad, with multiple navigation options that take advantage of the device, although it includes more multimedia components. Each section starts with a video presentation, there's interactive images, sounds, and other little extras. Note that the magazine also has ads in it. Techcrunch made a video overview for it which shows it off pretty well. The app does come with a preview by itself, so check it out in the App Store.

Richard Branson unleashes Project, an iPad magazine
Posted by John Kilhefner Categories: Apple, Design, Handhelds,
The new iPad-only magazine entitled “Project” was launched yesterday. Helmed by Richard Branson, Project is available as an iPad magazine where issues cost $2.99 each. A subscription option through iTunes is thought to be the next step for the magazine, and may be announced December 9th at a media event.
The cover of the inaugural issue loans the talents of Jeff Bridges, toting an exclusive story on Tron 2. Project uses features such as “Spine”, “Action Buttons”, and “Plus Panels” that make the magazine more than simply a print-to-digital carbon copy. As such, the iPad-only magazine has the potential to be a new form of media. However, whether it lasts or not is a question we will see answered over the deciding next few months.

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Science,
Trek into the mountains of Vermont this summer, and you may see an actual Giant Robot. Jaimie Mantzel has been working on his creation for a while now, and says that he is hoping for a springtime debut. When completed, the aluminum bot will be 12 ft. tall, 18 ft. across and Jaimie will pilot it via cockpit. Take a look at his site that is filled with video of the project and many of his other ones. By the way, if you like what you see and can’t wait for the time when Giant Robots dominate the planet, a donation would probably be graciously appreciated.

Demi Moore’s Directorial Debut Stays Behind Closed Doors

It appears as if Demi Moore‘s latest project has gravitated her behind the camera, placing her alongside starlets-turned-directors like Natalie Portman, Courtney Cox, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Although the folks over at Glamour magazine are guarding the short film like hawks, Brittany Snow has leaked a few notes about her director:
“She’s so grounded and normal and a really, really talented director. When it comes to this crazy town and industry, she has a very good handle on who she is…She wore jeans and a T-shirt every day and no makeup. She was just so cool.”
The film, which is part of Glamour‘s Reel Moments Series, is slated to premiere this October. Kirsten Dunst, Kate Hudson, and Rita Wilson are among the many actresses who have participated in the past.
