Woman in Legal Battle with UMP Over YouTube Clip

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Music,

Stephanie Lenz uploaded a 30 second clip of her toddler son dancing to Prince’s song “Let’s Go Crazy” to share with family and friends back in February 2007. Universal Music Publishing insisted the music was “not authorized by the copyright owner” and asked that it be removed. To make a long story short, Stephanie is now involved in a lengthy legal battle, backed by the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The clip has received almost 700,000 hits because of the publicity.

We know how she feels. We were recently notified that a video we shot of the Village People was taken down from YouTube after it was considered to be a copyright infringement. Considering they only have one surviving member singing in the group, you think they would have appreciated the extra publicity.

Prince Seeks to Protect Artistic Content on the Net

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Music,

PrincePrince has asked YouTube to remove unauthorized clips of his recent concert in London. There have been more than 1,000 of them eliminated in the past week by Web Sheriff, a company he hired to do the dirty work. He is also trying to stop unauthorized filesharing and items sold on eBay without his permission. Managing director of the company John Giacobbi said, “Prince feels very strongly that people should remember his concerts as they were, not as some grainy mobile phone footage.”

Considering all the freebies he gave away to UKers, we think this is a decent request on his part. We have been to several concerts of late where security will no longer allow cameras to be taken inside and suspect it is a sign of more restrictions to come.

Prince Insults Paris Hilton On Stage At Club?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, Gossip, Rumors,

Paris Hilton Pop singing Prince has been known for years as having somewhat interesting vocals, crazy fashion sense, and a penchant for rather shocking behavior. It seems only natural that he should partner on stage with Paris Hilton, whose scanty wardrobe is often enough to distract fans from her rather lackluster singing. According to Us magazine, Prince was ready to ignite the stage at Club 3121 at the Rio in Las Vegas less than one week ago today. This is one of the stops on Prince’s latest “comeback” tour, and he crooned to a huge crowd that included Hilton before pointing her out and inviting her to join him on stage. Paris, always elated to be in the spotlight, was quick to join him for a duet. Reportedly, Prince handed Paris the microphone before smiling at the crowd, “Let’s see if she can really sing.” Paris, enraged, stormed off stage and left the club shortly thereafter. So far, the story is not being confirmed by Hilton reps, and Prince’s people are maintaining “no comments” to the media. Did it happen? Does it matter? So, Prince knows Paris can’t sing – everyone who has heard her already came to that realization.

Dropping Dimes Draft Blog: Round 5, Pick 4

Mike JamesRound 5, Pick 4: Mike James, PG, Minnesota Timberwolves

With the number of point guards that have gone off of the board already, I’ve noticed that only three of them had a field goal percentage [last season] over 47%: Dwyane Wade, Steve Nash, and Jason Terry.  With Terry already being on this squad, and not exactly being the biggest dime-dropper out there, I decided to ensure that along with my two big-men, I’d lock up another top-12 point guard – by my estimation.  I’d even consider arguing that James could be better than Terry this season…
