HP USB Floppy Drive Key

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Accessories, USB, Storage

USB Floppy Drive KeyHP’s newest USB flash drive does more than just the usual storage chores. The Floppy Drive Key has a switch that will allow you to go from USB 2.0 to, as the name implies, become a floppy drive. This is good news for those of us who have older computers that still have one and not enough USB ports. The plug and play device comes in a 256MB version for $49.00 and 1GB for $79.00. We figure the plainness of it is more than made up for by its pulling double duty.

USB Cube HubSomebody finally decided to create a USB 2.0 Cube Hub that not only allows you to connect 4 devices, 2 of them can be turned off and on. What a great idea for people like us that only have two ports and one of them is solely dedicated to our mouse. At a size of 60 x 60 x 45mm and a weight of 127g, the hub works with Windows XP/Vista/200 and has a data transfer rate of up to 480Mbps. Available in 5 colors, pick one up for $12.00.

Far Cry 2 Coming, Sayeth Ubisoft

Far Cry 2 logo

Ubisoft doesn’t think you should be getting too excited about Crysis. According to them, Far Cry 2 is going to be the new hawtness. In fact, they’re pretty confident that Far Cry 2 is going to be the game to raise the bar in the FPS arena:

“Far Cry marked the beginning of a new era for shooters. An era of gorgeous graphics and of advanced artificial intelligence,” declared John Parkes, EMEA marketing director at Ubisoft. “We are confident that Far Cry 2 will have the same impact again on the FPS genre landscape.”

Never mind the fact that Far Cry 2 isn’t being developed by Crytek, or that they don’t have shiny screenshots to show off. It’s just going to be awesome. Plus, you’ll be able to look forward to the ports! Far Cry 2: Instinctual Predation - Evolution of Vengeance coming soon to the the PS2, Wii, Gamecube, Xbox, GBA, and your cell phone.

Snarkiness aside, the game will be developed by Ubisoft’s Montreal Studios who also worked on Splinter Cell and the Prince of Persia series, so we can probably expect some pretty good things. From the look of the preview website, it looks like the game may take place in the African savannah, but we’ll have to wait for Ubi to give us any more tidbits of info (such as platforms, release dates, and all that other important stuff).

WiiWare – Nintendo’s New Downloadable Game Service

Posted by Chris Pereira Categories: Nintendo, Virtual Console, Wii

Wiimote Sure, the Wii already has the Virtual Console, but all we get there are straight ports of classic games. Great for those of us who may have missed games or want to play them again for nostalgia’s sake, and Nintendo & co. can make a ridiculous profit. Xbox Live Arcade, and PlayStation Network, to an extent, on the other hand, are home to original titles and encourage independent developers to create titles for the platforms.

WiiWare is Nintendo’s answer. We don’t have many details yet, but we know the first content for the platform should be appearing in early 2008. Pricing has not yet been announced.
