Belkin’s new iPod Cases Support Breast Cancer Research

Belkin iPod Cases

What’s not to like about ?  Not only do they make quality accessories for seemingly all our assorted gadgets, now they‘ve introed cases for which 10% of sales will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Own an iPod Shuffle? Check out their new Sport Armband, which you can also wear on your wrist. It’s also water-resistant and has nighttime reflectors. Very cool.  If you have an iPod nano, there’s a Sport Armband for that too, and yes, it’s water-resistant. Also for the nano is the Remix Acrylic, a clear case made of, yes, acrylic. But our favorite is The Statements, a leather case with a ribbon pattern, a wristband, and a mirror/picture frame! Each comes in Pink (natch) or Bone, and will be available from the Belkin website and exclusively at Target stores on September 15. Prices range from $20-$25 USB.

Pink PSP Being Hawked by… Pink?

Pink pink PSP BoxWait a minute… I thought the pink PSP was being advertised as such because of it’s pink color? How wrong I was… turns out it’s all part of some elaborate marketting tie-in built to:
a) Skyrocket Pink (yes, the “artist”) back to the top of the charts via her association with the pink PSP
b) Skyrocket the PSP back to the top of the charts via its association with Pink(?)
c) Just make gamers feel even MORE awkward when they pick up their new PSP color
d) All of the above?

Seems like a weird move on Sony’s part. Just because I want a pink PSP doesn’t mean I want to endorse Pink, does it? Oh god let’s hope there’s not any “bonus” free media with the Pink pink PSP.

Sony Adds New PS2, PSP Colors In Japan

Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Hardware, PlayStation 2, PSP,

Blue PSPSony will be adding a pink Playstation 2 to the line up and will be bringing back the satin silver Playstation 2 on November 22nd in Japan. On the same date, Sony will release a pink PSP. Then, on December 14th, Sony will launch a silver PSP, which will be followed by a metallic blue PSP on December 21st. Having more color options for the PSP may help Sony prop up Japanese sales of the handheld against the continually tough competition of the Nintendo DS, though this may be a stretch. While North America will get the silver PS2 in the near future, it would be nice to see more color options for the PSP in the United States as well.

This Ad is *Supposed* to Make You Want The Pink PS2

PS2 Panty Sniffer ad

Sony’s just had one brilliant advertisement following another these days. Well, at least this time it’s not laden with racist undertones. Their latest strategy? Advertising that the soon-to-be-made-obsolete pink PS2 is the gaming system of choice for pervs. It took me a while to even figure out that this was a PS2 ad - note the square - triangle - circle - cross shapes of the undergarments and it becomes more clear.

Is it just me, or is this advertisement doomed to scare away the pink PS2 target market of girl gamers? Or is the thought of some guy sniffing panties just the kind of thing to convince you to get that PS2 you’ve been lusting after?

DS Black Rumors had been circulating around the Internet that the US would see the Coral Pink and Black Onyx versions of the Nintendo DS Lite soon, and today Nintendo made it official. Starting September 13, both colors will be available to gamers in the United States, finally giving those consumers access to some of the larger palette of DS Lite colors available to users in other territories, and they will no longer have to pay upwards of $200 for an import unit.

Sony Announces Pink PSP, PS2 For Europe

Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: PlayStation 2, PSP,

Pink PSPAhead of the Leipzig conference, Sony has announced that they will be offering pink variations of the PSP and the PS2 in Europe, according to reports on GamesIndustry.biz. In the European territories, Sony already offers the PSP in both black and ceramic white, so this will be the third color offering for that territory, while the US has yet to see anything beyond the original color. The new PSP color will be offered in a bundle similar to the original US launch, with headphones, pouch, and a 32MB memory stick included. The bundle will retail for 169 GBP. Also announced was a pink variant of the slimline PSTwo, which will ship with dual controllers and a 8 MB memory card for 129.99 GBP.

At the same time, Sony announced that they would be lowering the price of the standard slim Playstation 2 to 94.99 GBP, or 129.99 Euro. Sony appears to be echoing their hardware strategy that they followed when the Playstation 2 was originally released. By still strongly supporting the old hardware platform while launching the new, Sony can extend the life of the Playstation 2. Game developers will find it hard to ignore the massive user base for the PS2, and if Sony can nail backward compatibility for the Playstation 3, this can allow some fresh content to appear while the truly next generation software trickles in. This approach is in large contrast to the way Microsoft handled the Xbox 360 launch; new Xbox hardware is hard to come by, and the platform itself has been pushed into the background quite quickly.
