Adobe Photoshop Elements 14 review
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Design, PC / Laptop, Software,
Here at Gear Live, reviewing gadgets, putting together gadget photo galleries, and creating image thumbnails for our YouTube videos. The thing is, there isn't much I need to do to make the images look great, and as such, Photoshop has always felt like overkill--a tool that is way more powerful than I need. I recently spent time with the new Adobe Photoshop Elements 14. This is the prosumer version of Photoshop that immediately felt way more accessible upon launching the application than it's more capable big brother.

Items Du Jour: Cara Would Shave Her Brows, Buy a Beckham Crown
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Hairstyles, Health & Beauty, Models, News, Sales,
+ Known for her famous, full eyebrows, Cara Delevingne probably shocked some of her brow worshipers fans when she admitted that she's willing to do anything for a film role - including shaving her head and eyebrows!
+ Ever dream of being Victoria Beckham? Well you can at least get married like her, as her gold wedding crown is up for auction for around $32,000.
+ Jennifer Lawrence looked fabulously gothic chic in a Christian Dior gown at the Paris premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Unfortunately it looks as though her co-star Elizabeth Banks should've borrowed Lawrence's stylist for the event...
+ Miranda Kerr apparently doesn't know what her own body looks like, as she denies knowing an image of herself she posted was heavily-Photoshopped, claiming that she had no idea that the photo was altered.

Miranda Kerr Caught Posting Uberly Photoshopped Pictures on Instagram
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Health & Beauty, Models, News,
The mother of one and currently estranged wife of Orlando Bloom has been accused of heavily Photoshopping images of herself for Instagram. Although she couldn't appear in Wednesday's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, she posted a photo of herself (full photos seen after the jump) alongside models Doutzen Kroes and Alessandra Ambrosio from last year's show with a caption reading, "Sending love and best wishes to the #vsangels from Japan xxx." Having seen the original image taken and published by Vogue, fans were quick to point out that Kerr's waist and face are considerably thinner in the version she posted.

iPhoto for iPad and iPhone released for $4.99
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Photography, iPad Apps, New Apps, Apple, $4.99,
At yesterday's iPad event, Apple unveiled the final piece of the puzzle as it pertains to bringing the full iLife suite to iOS with the release of iPhoto for iPad and iPhone. Similar to GarageBand and iMovie, iPhoto is available now as a universal app for $5. So, what's the draw? Well, iPhoto lets you use your iOS device's multi-touch display to perform basic photo editing function like simple one-tap white balance, red-eye removal, and exposure adjustments. You can also crop and straighten images, and remove blemishes with ease.
You can pull up your photos that are stored on your device, including the camera roll and Photo Stream, and compare images side-by-side. Edits are non-destructive as they save a copy rather than editing the original. You can process images that are up to 19 megapixels, which should be fine for the vast majority of people out there, but for those of you shooting with a Canon 5D Mark II in RAW format, you may wanna look elsewhere for your photo processing software--but in that scenario, why would you be using an iPad for that function anyway?
You've got a bunch of sharing options, including Twitter, Facebook, and Flickr. You can also export photos to your Camera Roll and to iTunes and email them to contacts. One new feature is Journal, where you can select a group of photos that iPhoto then puts together in a unique gallery with dates, weather information, maps, and more. It's like making a diary out of photos relating to an event or range of dates.
For $5, you can't go wrong with iPhoto for iOS. You can get it now on the App Store.
PHOTOS: Pre-Photoshop Madonna for Dolce and Gabbana
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Fashion Designers, Health & Beauty, News,
Yet another celebrity’s pre-Photoshop images are outed by the internet. This time, it’s Madonna for Dolce & Gabbana.
Although the untouched photo may not be the best angle or lighting, it is very clear that Madonna’s controversial arms have been de-muscled in the ads, in addition to some heavy editing done to her nose and chin. Her eye makeup isn’t very flattering either, which is perhaps why the ads were printed in black and white.
Either way, the Queen of Pop works hard for her toned form; she should be able to flaunt—not drastically alter—it!

Items Du Jour: Marion Sans Photoshop, Lenny Kravitz Wears Heels
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Fashion Designers, Health & Beauty, Models, News,
—An ad that actually features Taylor Momsen’s face for John Galliano’s latest perfume product was released with Momsen wearing more clothes and a little less makeup. But just barely.
—The designer of Lady Gaga’s controversial meat dress, Franc Fernandez, takes a moment to answer some questions. Not surprisingly, he wasn’t fond of answering the animal rights-related one.
—Now that her little sister is out of the picture, Beyonce took it upon herself to model the House of Dereon’s new temporary tattoo product. The tattoos were actually added to the Fall collection in an attempt to make it “ediger.”
—Lenny Kravitz recently stepped out in New York channeling his inner Marc Jacobs as he sported a cowl-neck jumper with a murse and thigh-high heeled boots to match.
—Reality star and former Playboy girlfriend Holly Madison is putting her love of shoes aside to help out a charity set to raise $50,000 for victims of natural disasters.

Crystal Renn Blasts Airbrushing
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Editorials, Health & Beauty, Models, News,
Plus-size supermodel Crystal Renn was horrified after bosses airbrushed 30lbs off her frame for a campaign poster.
Crystal, who is a size 10, says the pictures for the Fashion for Passion advertisements no longer look like her because her appearance has been altered so much.
“They brushed about 30lbs off my body. I sat there in silence for so long when I saw the pictures. I couldn’t believe what they’d done. It didn’t look like me. Don’t cut inches off my thighs. Don’t make me a size two when I’m a 10. It’s totally misleading. Fashion should be about a beautiful girl in beautiful clothes, not this size obsession. It’s dangerous. But if I have a zit or cellulite, take it off!”

Items Du Jour: Jessica Alba Saves the Day, Tom Ford Confirms Next Film
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, Health & Beauty, Models, News,
—Louis Vuitton models walked down the catwalk with temporary tattoos from artist Scott Campbell. Ed Hardy much?
—Actress Jessica Alba has completed her good deed of the week, swaying a 21 year-old Chinese woman from getting plastic surgery to look like her, in hopes of winning her ex-boyfriend back.
—Burberry’s Fall/Winter 2010 ad campaign has hit the interwebs. The photos star a beautiful and British blend of models and musicians. Great, another reason to be jealous of not being British.
—After the critical success of his directorial debut, it’s no wonder that Tom Ford is taking on a second film. Unfortunately, he’s not letting any details slip just yet.
—Emma Watson attended the Glastonbury Music Festival looking somewhat stylish. I’m loving her Louis Vuitton corset, but not necessarily agreeing with her choice in blue jean shorts.

Mischa Barton Heavily Photoshopped in Philipp Plein Ad
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Health & Beauty, Models, News,
The acting world doesn’t seem to want her, so Mischa Barton marches on with her recent foray into modeling. As of late, Barton appears in an ad campaign for German fashion designer Philipp Plein looking thinner (not to mention also oddly proportioned) than in real life.
In light of the onslaught of negative reactions to Ralph Lauren and Ann Taylor’s overly photo edited images, you’d think that clothing designers would have taught their graphic artists a lesson. Although Barton’s pose is odd to begin with, her waist and right hip and thigh look abnormal!
What do you think of the ad?
