The Gap, Zara Temporarily Ban Rabbit Fur
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: News, Sales,
Due to the efforts of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and a number of customers who expressed their presence online, retailers The Gap and Zara have released statements temporarily banning the sale of products made from angora rabbit fur.
PETA recently released undercover footage of the horrifying conditions and treatment of angora rabbits in a Chinese angora fur farm, prompting many companies to halt sales of the fur. The Gap and Zara were not as quick to jump on the compassionate bandwagon, facing harsh criticism online, as well as a petition which garnered over 295,000 signatures.
As a result, Zara released a statement on December 18th, claiming that they will stop ordering angora fur until it can verify the farms from which they purchase (let's be honest - they're not going to find a farm removing the fur humanely at the price points that they're used to). The Gap posted on Twitter with a similar sentiment.
How about they invest in cruelty-free faux fur instead of wasting time and money with their own investigations?

White House responds to petition, says cell phone unlocking should be legalized
Posted by Jason Diaz Categories: Smartphones,
It started as a petition needing only 100,000 signatures requesting that the White House make an official response to the right of cellphone owners to lawfully unlock their cellphones. The Library Of Congress deemed unlocking one's cellphone illegal in October 2012; a ruling that would take affect in the new year. Now, the White House has officially announced that they too agree with the 114K petitioners. It recommends that cellphones be unlocked as long as the customers first meet their carrier's contractual agreement. The White House has even included tablets to the list of devices. Consequently, the Library of Congress has agreed and support the review their policy, which was strongly urged by the FCC.
"The White House agrees with the 114,000+ of you who believe that consumers should be able to unlock their cell phones without risking criminal or other penalties. In fact, we believe the same principle should also apply to tablets, which are increasingly similar to smart phones. And if you have paid for your mobile device, and aren’t bound by a service agreement or other obligation, you should be able to use it on another network. It’s common sense, crucial for protecting consumer choice, and important for ensuring we continue to have the vibrant, competitive wireless market that delivers innovative products and solid service to meet consumers’ needs." - White House Administration

Petition for Grand Theft Auto 5 PC nears 50,000 signatures
Posted by John Kilhefner Categories: Action, Culture, PC, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox 360,
Mike Juliard's petition to get Rockstar to confirm the PC port of Grand Theft Auto 5 has surpassed 47,500 signatures, just 52,500 shy of his 100,000 goal.
From the petition: "GTA games have been a large part of so many peoples lives, and it’s a big shame not seeing the newest iteration of the game being released on the most powerful platform.”
One of the more pronounced reasons for a PC port is the mod community, as we've been privy to some amazing mods from GTA4 before it: “things like modifications have always been a HUGE part of PC gaming and modded GTA is some of the most insanely fun times you can have.”
According to Dan Houser of Rockstar, a PC port is "up for consideration," and this petition should do a lot to make Rockstar realize the PC audience's dedication to the franchise. Grand Theft Auto V is set for a Spring 2013 release.

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, ABC, Cable, Cancellations, Video,
ABC Family made a bold move last summer when they introduced Huge, a series revolving around the plus-sized attendees of a fat camp. Hairspray’s Nikki Blonsky was a dynamic part of the ensemble cast, which also featured Hayley Hasselhoff.
The show was well-received by critics and fans, but inexplicably the order was recently given for Huge’s cancellation. Blonsky said the news caught her “off guard. We were so thrilled with the reviews we got."

New York Petition Started for Justin Bieber Fans
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Artist News, Gossip, Pop,
Three thousand Justin Bieber fans were disappointed recently when a Long Island mall shut the singer out in order to maintain crowd control. The horde of girls was so frenzied, the security force thought it best to send Bieber on his way.
Now, a New York area store owner has created a petition to bring Bieber back. Robert Yeganah owns Love My Shoes, which is located just across from the Roosevelt Field Mall where Justin Bieber created the stir. The store is collecting signatures to get the musician re-scheduled in the area, and giving away free gift cards to any fan who was hurt in the riot at the mall when Bieber was canceled.
