Quote of the Day: Flea on the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Super Bowl Show
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Gossip, Performances, Rock,
"We decided that, with Anthony singing live, that we could still bring the spirit and freedom of what we do into the performance, and of course we played every note in the recording specially for the gig... Could we have plugged them in and avoided bumming people out who have expressed disappointment that the instrumental track was pre recorded? Of course easily we could have and this would be a non-issue. We thought it better to not pretend."
- Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, addressing viewers' realization that their instruments weren't plugged in while playing the Super Bowl halftime show.

Jennifer Hudson Performing for Michelle Obama

Jennifer Hudson didn't get Michelle Obama a birthday present.
The "I Can't Describe" hitmaker is performing at the First Lady's 50th birthday bash in Washington D.C. today, but admits she couldn't think of a gift to get her. When asked how easy it was to pick out something special for Michelle, the 32-year-old star told gossip website TMZ.com, "You don't. You just go and be there and show your support, that's all you can do."
The singer is really looking forward to performing at the big party: "I can't describe my new single but it's in the groove and the Obamas I'm sure they've already got it. It'll be fun."
It was previously reported that Michelle, who turned 50 on Friday, had asked Adele to perform alongside her close friend Beyonce at the party but the "Someone Like You" hitmaker was already booked to attend Kate Moss' 40th party at her cottage in Cotswolds, England today. "Moss asked her team first to find out how much it would cost to get Adele to perform. But Michelle then also invited her to sing alongside Beyonce at the White House. With Adele's fees she could make $4.8 million in 72 hours if she flies from Kate's to the States," an insider said.

Idris Elba will make a special DJ appearance at London's Sway nightclub on Friday.
The actor-and-DJ will provide the soundtrack to a night of partying at the Covent Garden hotspot, marking his first DJ set since the whirlwind success of his latest acting role as Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, for which he recently earned a Golden Globe nomination
The 41-year-old star will DJ under his musical moniker 7 Wallace and will also be joined by US female rapper Eve - whose hit singles include "Tambourine" and "Rich Girl" with Gwen Stefani - and former EastEnders actor Chucky Venn, who plays Ray Dixon in the BBC One soap.
Idris recently revealed that his next album will be dedicated to former South African leader Nelson Mandela, who died at the age of 95 earlier this month: "The album will be called Mi Mandela. I went back to South Africa and worked with some great musicians. I'm really proud of the album. I'll wait until the film has died down so it doesn't get muddled but I'll release it in the New Year. Basically, it's a love letter from me to Mandela about me playing him."
Ozzy Osbourne: I Slip on Stage Every Night

Ozzy Osbourne saw a dog at one of his concerts wearing a sign that read, "Please don't eat me!"
The legendary hellraiser, who famously bit the head off a bat on stage in 1982, said there have been many surreal moments during this year's Black Sabbath reunion tour. "At one of this year's gigs, somebody let a dog go with a sign on its leg saying, 'Please don't eat me!'" he told The Sun.
Ozzy spoke about winding up his band mates, including bassist and chief Sabbath lyricist Geezer Butler. "Geezer is a vegetarian. When he walked off the stage, I said, 'Does your wife eat meat?' And he replies, 'Yeah.' So I said, 'What, do you have a funeral every time she has a bacon sandwich?'" he explained.
Ozzy, who has been sober for nearly a year after relapsing into drink and drugs, said he's nearly injured himself on stage every night and is shocked by the band's massive success after releasing their monumental album 13 and being nominated for three Grammy Awards: "Every night, I've slipped on the stage. I nearly fell in the f***ing orchestra pit. I mean it's tough on the other guys. When they're all getting serious, I make them laugh and they all get p***ed off. Nothing's rehearsed with me. One day, I'll just put a bucked on my head. 'Just when you think things might be winding up, it gets bigger than ever. Honestly I'm in shock. I keep thinking I'm the luckiest guy in the world. It's been a dream."
Eminem Demands $2 Million for Super Bowl Gig

Eminem reportedly refused to perform at a Super Bowl party unless he was paid $2 million.
The "Monster" rapper is said to have been approached to play a concert at the NFL Owners Party during Super Bowl week in 2014. According to TMZ, the offer was for Eminem to perform a set of his greatest hits for 1,500 guests following a lavish dinner, but organizers were forced to find a replacement act after the rapper demanded the hefty fee.
Reps for the event were also eyeing a performance from Kanye West only to find that his fee was also out of budget. "[For Kanye] it was $1 million, plus a lot of other perks," a source revealed.
As a last resort organizers have reportedly snapped up "Tight Rope" singer Janelle Monae who will perform for a more reasonable $150,000.

Katy Perry Joins John Mayer on Stage

Katy Perry joined John Mayer on stage for a surprise appearance in Brooklyn.
The "Roar" hitmaker and her boyfriend sang their duet "Who You Love" from John's latest album Paradise Valley. They performed together on Tuesday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and even managed to sneak in a few kisses at the beginning of the song.
Hours before John, 36, and Katy, 29, sat down on Good Morning America for their first joint interview and premiered the music video for "Who You Love," which saw the couple kiss and embrace. John was initially hesitant to feature Katy on the track, saying, "My first thought was, 'You can't do that' and then the more I thought about just the music part of it, it made perfect sense. Even if I didn't know Katy, it would have made perfect sense.... For me it always had to be about the song ... It's a pretty big moving target to be a couple and have a song but I think there's an authenticity to it when you hear it."
Katy said about her duet with John, "It transcends us. It's more about the message of the song."
Lorde: I Look Like Gollum on Stage
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Gossip, Performances, Pop,
Lorde thinks she looks like Gollum from Lord of the Rings when she performs on stage.
The 17-year-old star likened herself to the ugly fictional character from J.R.R Tolkien's tales during a question and answer session with fans on entertainment website Reddit. "I know when I'm on stage, I don't think about how it looks, I just concentrate on really feeling what I hear. But I totally know I look like Gollum when I perform, so it's cool," the "Royals" singer explained.
Lorde also revealed she "hates dentists," when asked why she referred to her teeth so much in her debut album, Pure Heroine. In an hour, the Kiwi singer attracted almost 5,000 questions and comments during the "Ask Me Anything" session. During that time, she confirmed she would be performing at a "major festival" in North America in 2014 and revealed for her next video, she is deciding between the album tracks Ribs, 400 Lux and Buzzcut.
