Caffeine and Tech Combine in Yuno

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, Microsoft, PC / Laptop,

YunoFor those who check their e-mail before their first cuppa java (you know who you are,) the Yuno is the perfect answer to allow you to fulfill your quotas in both areas. While you are getting your caffeine fix you can check your e-mail, see a traffic report, or find out how much Google stock is worth now with its touchscreen. It measures 6.25 x 3.75-inches and has a detachable CPU bottom so that you can pop it in the dishwasher. This is a finalist in Microsoft’s Next-Gen PC Design Competition. We like this prototype over most of the others even though we hope that they also make it insulated. Our e-mail takes forever to wade through sometimes. The contest runs through March 15, in case you want to vote for one of the contestants.

Virtual Villagers Trilogy is Not Just for Kids

Virtual Villagers 3

We admit it. We are addicted to the two Virtual Villagers PC games, which originate from San Francisco’s LDW (Last Day of Work Games.) Executive Producer Carla Humphrey told us that there will be a third one out in beta in a month or so. This is one of those games that appears to be created for kids, for it is fairly straightforward, but we are not so sure. They wouldn’t have the patience.

Although you can speed up the scenarios, it is still played in real time, sort of. Twenty two minutes until the next crop is ready to harvest seems a dreadfully long time when your inhabitants are starving. The game can be played in Easy, Normal, and Difficult for leisure gaming or for those who like a challenge.

One of the most intriguing features is that the game can go on even when your computer is shut off unless you put it on pause. If you like RPGs, SIMs, or games that use your mind instead of just your trigger finger, read our review of the first two Villagers after the jump.

(Thanks, Carla)

DIY Moldable Mouse

Moldable MouseThere are a lot of ergonomic mice that we think are frankly not all that comfortable, much less saving us a case of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Lite-on has developed a concept that you can use to make your own mouse the way that is best for your hands. The prototype is made of modeling clay and covered with nylon and polyurethane so you can give it any shape you desire on its base of PC/ABS recyclable plastic. It also features built-in RFID, a touch sensitive scroll pad, laser optics, and runs on batteries. Hopefully winning the Red Dot Award recently will spur them into making the mouse a reality.

Superbowl to Boost Technology Sales

Superbowl

It’s almost Superbowl time again, and CEA predicts that before the big game on Feb. 3, 2.4 million hi-def TVs will be purchased. Tim Herbet, Senior Market Research Director said that other technologies are also influenced, i.e. PC to check stats, IM with friends, and bet on the game. The survey also came to the conclusion that 13% of those who watch SB XLII will also use their cell phone for stats and IMs. Personally, some of us just dig the commercials.
