At first glance, when Apple introduced its new MacBook Pro with Retina display during its WWDC 2012 keynote, we thought it looked amazing, but that the price would make it a difficult choice for consumers. It looks like we were wrong. Lines have formed at multiple Apple Store locations around the country, and the Apple Store online is now showing a 2-3 week backorder on new Retina display MacBook Pro orders. Obviously, this product is in high demand, and your best bet is likely a trip to your local Apple Store. Anyone manage to snag one?

MacBook Pro 2012 line

Apple released a refreshed line of 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pro notebooks durings its WWDC 2012 keynote this morning, sporting brand new Ivy Bridge processors. Additionally, the beautiful new 15.4-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display was revealed as well. One thing Phil Schiller didn't divulge from the stage was that the company has discontinued the 17-inch MacBook Pro model. From here on out, at least for the forseeable future, it's all about 13- and 15-inch notebooks if you're rocking a MacBook Pro notebook.

MacBook Pro wwdc 2012

Our pals over at 9to5Mac are reporting that the specs of the new MacBook Pro that will be announced at this morning's WWDC 2012 keynote are told to them by "reliable sources" as follows:

13.3 inch: 2.5GHz dual core processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive
13.3 inch: 2.9GHz dual core processor, 8GB of RAM, 750GB hard drive
15.4 inch: 2.3GHz quad core processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive
15.4 inch: 2.6GHz quad core processor, 8GB of RAM, 750GB hard drive (BTO upgrades to 2.7GHz quad core and 1TB HD will be available)

None of these are the Retina display model, so we are guessing that Apple will have three tiers of MacBook beginning today: MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and the Retina display MacBook Pro.

Apple prepping MacBook Pro with Retina display, USB 3.0

Retina Display on MacBook Pro

Apple is preparing to launch a redesigned MacBook Pro that'll be sporting all sorts of new features. According to multiple sources, the new MacBook Pro will feature a new, ultra-thin unibody design, USB 3.0 ports (a first for Apple,) and at the center of it all, a "jaw-dropping" Retina display.

How's Apple gonna achieve making a thin notebook even thinner? With the removal of two components. First, the optical drive is going bye-bye. Apple started phasing out optical drives with the release of the original MacBook Air, and then continued the trend with the latest Mac mini. With the release of the Mac App Store, and broadband being to ubiquitous, it stands to reason that digital files and downloads are here to stay. Apple does still sell an external optical drive that connects via USB for those who need it.

Bleeding Edge TV 436: Lenovo IdeaPad YOGA Windows 8 ultrabook

We give you a look at the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga, an ultrabook that can morph into multiple form factors with ease. Lenovo is calling this an industry first, and we can't find reason to argue with them. The Yoga combines a portable 13.3-inch multitouch display alongside powerful innards. The dual-hinge design lets you turn this thing from notebook form factor into something that resembles a large tablet. You can also turn it inside out so that it becomes its own stand for watching content. The IdeaPad Yoga packs an Intel Core Ivy Bridge processor, has 8 GB RAM, a 256 GB SSD, and a battery that lasts up to 8 hours. Expect this one to hit stores in the second half of the year (probably around the same time as the launch of Windows 8,) for $1,199. This video was recorded at CES 2012.
