LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian Heat Up LIfetime’s Ratings
I guess it’s like they say - there’s no such thing as bad publicity.
Those curious to see LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian’s on-screen action (we’ve already seen the off-screen version), gave Lifetime its best numbers of the year. Saturday’s premiere of Northern Lights, an adaptation of a Nora Roberts novel, was watched by approximately 4.5 million voyeurs. That’s the largest audience the cable channel has seen for one of its movies in 2009.
According to Us Weekly, the costars - both married - have been engaging in an affair since filming the project last fall. Although Cibrian has denied any wrongdoing, the country singer has only said that this is a “difficult time” for her and her loved ones.

CELEBRITY PR TIP #124: If you’re going to put yourself in a questionable situation, at least wait until after your promotional tour is over.
Just days before her new made-for-TV movie is set to debut, LeAnn Rimes has become the focus of unwanted media attention. The star of Lifetime’s Northern Lights is now having to skirt rumors of a possible affair.
According to Us Weekly, the married country singer has been romantic with Eddie Cibrian, the costar of her Nora Roberts adaptation. Cibrian, who was recently seen playing a cheating husband on several episodes of Ugly Betty, is a married father of two. (RANDOM SIDE NOTE: Tori Spelling also met Dean McDermott while filming a Lifetime movie.)

Scientists Demystify Northern Lights
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Misc. Tech, Science,
Anyone who has seen the Northern Lights knows that they are truly incredible, so it’s almost a bummer that they have found out what they actually are. Scientists at the University of California say they are releases of stored energy that happen when stressed magnetic field lines change into a new shape. The researchers say that this occurs more than 100,000 km away. To catch and study the phenomenon, identical satellites were used to trace the sequence from its initial substorm to the appearance of the colored lights.

Catholic League Seeks Boycott of ‘Golden Compass’
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: New Line, Celeb News, Upcoming Releases,
Hollywood adaptations are as ubiquitous to the city as would-be starlets – they’re everywhere, and they’re constantly being forced upon us moviegoers. One of the latest adaptations to make it to theaters is The Golden Compass, based on the novel Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman. It’s set for release Dec. 7, but already there are several groups feeling upset with the movie’s mere existence. Fans of the book are unhappy with the changes, but “unhappy” doesn’t begin to describe what the Catholic Church seems to be feeling.
Starring Nicole Kidman among others, The Golden Compass doesn’t have a lot to do with religion. And many think that’s very, very bad. The Catholic League, an U.S. organization, is urging Christians not to see the movie, and has said that Pullman is “a noted English atheist.” They’re calling the movie an attempt to “bash Christianity and promote atheism. To kids.” In the book, the Church plays a central role, part of a weird group that’s determined to discover the nature of sin by experimenting on children. In the movie, however, the Church isn’t referenced…at all. Kidman, who is Catholic, won’t even be part of any film that’s anti-religious.
Reviews of the movie have already been released, many singing Nicole’s praises, but fans of the book are disappointed in the differences. Don’t worry. The Golden Compass - a very diluted version of Northern Lights - won’t step on any toes.
