Watch Mario marathon for Child’s Play charity live

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Culture, Nintendo, Nintendo Gamecube, Wii,

You’ve gotta love the ideas that spawn from the gaming community. Piggybacking off the wonderful Child’s Play charity which was started by Penny Arcade, a trio of gamers have decided to band together and play through all Super Mario games over the course of the weekend to raise money for the worthy cause. Not only that, but they are doing it live. You can just hit the play button above to check out their live Super Mario Marathon stream. You get to see John, Dan, and Brian sitting around and chatting, and the game video and audio are even present as well. They started with Super Mario Bros., and will be playing right through to Super Mario Galaxy. That’s seven games in fifty-five hours. Epic.

We’ve already donated, and we think you should too. It’s a fun and creative way to bring attention to Child’s Play.

Good job, guys.

Koopa Cuff LinksAnd yet more retro gadgets rear their heads in the shape of NES koopas and other miscellaneous gamey creatures. “pixelparty” makes the Super Mario 3/4 x 1/2-inch jewelry out of shrinkydinks, plastic, and plain cufflinks. Each design will set you back $16.00, and if you don’t like what you see on his Etsy page, he is more than willing to create something pixellated just for you. We wonder what he could do with Metroid or Frogger.

Okay, we gotta hand it to these guys - when you put it like this, I guess really can seem lame. Unfortunately, a lot of games utilize similar mechanics as are found in this parody. However you feel about ‘s money-making machine, this one is definitely good for a laugh.

N5 for Nintendo DS & DS Lite

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Storage, Video Games, USB,

N5The N5 is an updated version of the R4DS. The second generation storage device supports both Nintendo DS and Lite, needs no booting tool, has a card slot for Micro SD, FAT16 or 32, works by touchscreen or button with auto-detect. It supports rumble pak, memory pak, Moonshell, and has an open I/O interface. Perhaps the best feature is that you can load your cheat codes, not that we agree with that. The 2 x 0.8 x 0.3-inch N5 comes with a TF card reader and application CD and is available for $69.99.

(Thanks, Cassily)

NES Zapper LampWhat does one do if she/he still has some of their old Nintendo games and a Zapper gun lying around? In the case of “fluffypants,” you turn them into a lamp. Using an inexpensive lampshade, a pack of fun foam, and a cardboard base designed to look like the original Duck Hunt cartridge, she shows you full instructions to create your own. Maybe next week she will turn other Nes games into coasters or bookcases.

FC Mobile Console System

FC Mobile Console System

We have plenty of friends and family who still have their first Nintendo system. Perhaps they just couldn’t get past the Legend of Zelda. You can play those old NES cartridges on the FC Mobile Console System using either its 2.4-inch LCD screen, or by attaching it with the included AV cable to your TV. Audio comes from its eternal stereo speakers or plug in headphones when those around you complain. The system comes in black/silver and red/white at a price of about $45.00, depending on where you shop. We found one for $39.95 on eBay with a random game included.
