Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, Misc. Tech, Video Games

NES TableWe dig this NES controller/coffee table/storage box that actually works! Kyle Downs created the design for the top by scanning his controller for measurements. After building the piece with wood and painting it, he covered it with glass. You can get full instructions and see the process on his site to learn how to assemble your own. Maybe Kyle will show us how to make a Super Mario ‘Shroom stool next.

NES Zapper LampWhat does one do if she/he still has some of their old Nintendo games and a Zapper gun lying around? In the case of “fluffypants,” you turn them into a lamp. FC Mobile Console System

FC Mobile Console System

We have plenty of friends and family who still have their first Nintendo system. Perhaps they just couldn’t get past the Legend of Zelda. You can play those old NES cartridges on the FC Mobile Console System using either its 2.4-inch LCD screen, or by attaching it with the included AV cable to your TV. Audio comes from its eternal stereo speakers or plug in headphones when those around you complain. The system comes in black/silver and red/white at a price of about $45.00, depending on where you shop. We found one for $39.95 on eBay with a random game included.

Super Mario Nintendo

Recycling doesn’t get much cleverer than this. The folks at Kotomi took an original Nintendo game system and shoved it into a Super Mario Brothers cartridge. If you have ever taken one of them apart, you know that there is not that much to its innards to begin with, but we still applaud this prototype that has a has a finite on/off switch, a reset button, a power Del, 2 joystick ports, a port Famicom cartridge, a video output and stereo audio, and 6V input power.

Mii Cake Toppers

Now, we’ve seen custom wedding cake toppers before, but these Mii cake toppers are just…fantastic. I mean, who wouldn’t want a pair of Mii characters - which look vaguely like you - standing atop their cake on one of the most important days of their lives? The best part, to us at least, is that this is a way of geeking out a bit at your wedding, without going way over the top. Those who have no clue what a Mii - or even - even is, will still “get” that you were simply putting a visual representation of yourself on your cake. They run for $140 USD and are available from MiiSculptures.

The question is, would you do it?
