Finally, after a long period of silence, Nintendo has finally made release dates public for a few of their more anticipated products: Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit, and the WiiWare channel. First up is Mario Kart Wii, which will launch in Japan on April 10th, and Europe the following day on April 11th. No word yet on the US launch date.
The WiiWare channel, which will be a portal to downloading original games to the Wii, will be available on North American Wii units on May 12th. No word on Japan or European launches for WiiWare just yet.
Lastly, Wii Fit, which has been flying off of shelves over in Japan since it’s release back in December, will launch in North America on May 19th. If you are in Europe, Wii Fit will be available in your neck of the woods on April 25th.

Hasbro Introduces Switch Shot for Wii
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Misc. Tech, Toys, Video Games
Hasbro was present at the NY Toy Fair this week, displaying its new Nerf toys. Included in the line is their Switch Shot EX-3. The device not only works as a Wii Shooter gun, it doubles as a dart blaster with a module that inserts into its remote slot. You can stow two darts in the lower half of the barrel, which also keeps an N-Strike accessory rail. Arriving in the 3rd Quarter of 2008, you will be able to get a Switch Shot for ~$15.00 or purchase one packed with the upcoming N-Strike game for Nintendo DS (no price determined thus far.)

Nintendo’s Girl Gamer Magazine is in the Pink
Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Culture, Nintendo

We were very excited to see that there’s a gaming magazine dedicated to females—but we admit to having some reservations. Currently available in the UK, we feel Nintendo’s “Girl Gamer” magazine is way too heavy on the pink…the title, the DS Lite, the
makeup job. And really, a “Cooking Mama 2” article? A little stereotypical. Granted we are literally judging the magazine by its cover, and get that it’s aimed at the tween set. But let’s hope that if and when Girl Gamer hits US shores, it will be a little… grittier. For our UK brethren, the next issue of Girl Gamer, which is free by the way, will be available in March.
The Console Wars Veteran I gaming medal
Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, Culture, Nintendo
Only a hardcore gamer knows the unique sense of accomplishment felt after reaching “100% completion” on a video game. But when you brag about it, you’re likely to get the response “So whaddya want, a medal?” Well, now you can actually have your own gaming medal, courtesy of Supermandolini. The limited edition Console Wars Veteran I medal honors “the memories of endless epic battles, infinite high scores and numerous blistered fingers.” The metal badge features a retro NES controller, but we’re hoping other consoles will get the medal treatment soon, as we’d love a SNES version. Available for approx. $27 USD.

Pave the Way With Nintendo
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, Household, Video Games
You want to redecorate your backyard but still maintain the fact that you live for Nintendo as far back as the original Gameboys. How about some bricks to liven up your yard? The creator had arranged them into a wall and in the ground back in 2006 and claims that they are still intact, unlike most of those portable gaming systems. Each one is $45.00 apiece, fairly pricey for something that just lies there. But we figure you can always turn your front bushes into leafy Mario Brothers to match.

Wii shortages continue, Nintendo partners with GameStop on rain check program
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Corporate News, Hardware, Nintendo, Wii
I just got off a press call with Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime where the focus was on the availability of the Wii console. Reggie made it clear that Nintendo never expected the success that Wii has been enjoying since launch, and therefore has remained hard to find despite ramped up production. Nintendo is hoping to help out just a bit with a couple of short-term initiatives.
Nintendo/PC Up for Auction
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Mods / Hacks, PC / Laptop, Video Games, Videos
We like the retro look of this PC built into an old Nintendo and apparently so do a lot of others. Its creator spent about 50 hours and €800 (~$1,180.00) to make it and it is now being auctioned off on eBay France. The event will run through December 9, and the bid last time we checked was about €625,00 (~$917.00.) Check out its innards, outers, and ports on the video. Not a bad deal considering he is also tossing in some NES and NES 64 gear to go with it.

The Lazy Way to Score a Wii
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Apple, Internet, Portable Audio / Video, Toys, Video Games
Want a Wii but don’t want the early morning wait outside Toys ‘R Us or Target? Two websites will help you to obtain the elusive game system. Wii Chat will tell you places to pre-order plus links to eBay sellers, if cost isn’t as important as availability. Wii Tracker goes one better. It lists particular stores’ availability on not only Wiis, but other hot items such as TMX Elmo, Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo DS, iPhones, and RAZRs. Sure, you could look for these yourself, but why bother when these kind folk have done it for you?

The Pac-Man Collectors’ Shot Glass Set
Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, Hot Deals, Video Games

Lately, we’ve been quite obsessed with Nintendo and Space Invader swag, leaving Pac-Man feeling left out, isolated, and depressed. That’s why we’re showing the classic game some love with this Pac-Man Collectors’ Shot Glass Set. It’s a set of six 1.5 oz glasses, each with screen printed decals of the game’s characters…including the beloved Bonus Cherries! The set comes in a gift box, however only 2500 units were manufactured, for $30 USD. Hurry, before they’re all swallowed up (get it?).
