Adrian Belew Quits Nine Inch Nails

Adrian Belew has quit Nine Inch Nails.
The 63-year-old guitarist has parted ways with the band after a discussion with frontman Trent Reznor - who was inspired by Adrian to reform the group - in which the pair concluded his involvement was "not working" and he has apologized to fans for letting them down.
Adrian - who previously fronted band King Crimson and has worked with the likes of Frank Zappa, Talking Heads and David Bowie - wrote on his official Facebook page, "hey folks, before this goes too far let me say this: I greatly respect trent and the music he makes. no one is at fault. we both agreed it just was not working. I'm sorry to disappoint anyone. that really hurts. but NIN will do an amazing show and I am back where I belong: creating FLUX. (sic)"
His departure comes just a month after bassist Eric Avery quit, admitting he was "overwhelmed" at the thought of a long tour and instead wants to remain in Los Angeles to focus on his solo career.

Trent Reznor Announces Upcoming Nine Inch Nails Album
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Artist News, Collaborations, Upcoming Releases, Rock,
Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has announced that the band has finished their latest album and that it will be released through Columbia later this year.
While Reznor stated at the end of last year that new material was in the works and had released scheduled tour dates, the band never divulged just when that album would arrive (their last album, The Slip, was released in 2008). Reznor opened up about the fact that he kept the news underwraps from fans:
"I've been less than honest about what I've really been up to lately. For the last year I've been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly f--king great. This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, How to Destroy Angels and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place. Here we go!"

Eric Avery Quits Nine Inch Nails

Eric Avery has quit Nine Inch Nails.
The 48-year-old bass player announced his decision to leave the band - formed of Trent Reznor, Alessandro Cortini, IIan Rubin, Adrian Belew and Josh Eustis - because he felt too "overwhelmed" to commit to over a year of touring. He instead wants to focus on his solo career in Los Angeles and is grateful for the support of his bandmates on his life-changing decision.
"It's with very mixed emotions I tell you all that I'm pulling out of NIN [Nine Inch Nails]. I know. Its been a tough call and I don't know if it's the right one. But I really want to focus on my musical life here in LA, on film work in particular. As the tour dates kept growing ... I just got overwhelmed. I just got home from a year of heavy travel with Garbage, the idea of leaving town for another year and a half, and with all the intensity that Nails demands ... fortunately my friend Trent understands all this and appreciated my pulling the plug now instead of deep into 2013 and 14," he said, writing in a post on Facebook.

Trent Reznor Blasts “Fashion” Music
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Gossip, Reunions, Pop, Rock,
Trent Reznor thinks modern music is "more fashion than substance." The Nine Inch Nails mastermind says technology makes it easier for people to create their musical ideas, without necessarily having to learn to play an instrument first.
"I don't really care if you can play an instrument or not. I don't think that's a mandatory skill required to make music that can connect with people. I do think computers have made it easy to make lazy music that sounds nice. I find a fair amount of what's championed today feels to me like it falls in that category - much more fashion than substance. There's also a lot of current music I think is great - and as someone pointed out below, The Knife is a good example," he said, writing on Reddit.com.
Trent has recently announced he has put a new live line up for Nine Inch Nails together which will tour over the summer: "The band is reinventing itself from scratch and will be comprised of Eric Avery, Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Ilan Rubin, and me. The first shows will begin this summer, followed by a full-on arena tour of the US this fall, and lots of other dates worldwide to follow through 2014. Lots of details and dates to come. See you soon."
Nine Inch Nails Making a Comeback?

Trent Reznor has confirmed new Nine Inch Nails material is "in the works." The band's front-man went on a 20th anniversary farewell tour with them in 2009, but now reveals they may release new songs in the future.
"All signs point to yes... Yeah, there will be new music. There are some things in the works. Yeah, if it feels right, it's a possibility. I never said that that wasn't going to happen, just that it couldn't go on as it was. Stay tuned. We'll see what happens here," he told Rolling Stone.
Since parting ways with Nine Inch Nails, Trent has been creating songs for films including The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network.
Speaking last year, the 47-year-old singer said he did not think of Nine Inch Nails as "dead," but just away temporarily: "Nine Inch Nails is not dead by any means, but all the touring and record writing has been thrown off for a little bit." Nine Inch Nails last released an album in 2008.
Trent Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails Challenge
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Upcoming Releases, Rock, Soundtracks,
Trent Reznor is excited about the challenge of writing Nine Inch Nails music again. The musician retired the band from live performance in 2009 so he could concentrate on other projects but is resurrecting it this year and looks forward to shaping it towards who he is as a person right now.
"I'm going to be writing for Nine Inch Nails this year. I don't have any particular goal in mind other than... My voice as a songwriter feels like it needs to speak up or at least work out a little bit to not atrophy. I think I have something to say that feels unique to who I am right now, and that's when it tells me it's time to do something. At the moment it's going to live in the Nine Inch Nails column, for a few reasons. I enjoy the challenge of moving that kind of brand forward, that identity, shaping it to who I am now instead of who I was a few years ago when I last left off. But it's all kind of hypothetical right now. When I sit down with a notebook and a little mini-recorder is when my bluff will be called, and then it might not happen at all."
Trent won a Golden Globe for the soundtrack to The Social Network last year and although he didn't win this year for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo he says it was wonderful to be "noticed" by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association:

Trent Reznor to Write New Nine Inch Nails Songs

Trent Reznor is planning to spend next year writing material for Nine Inch Nails. The musician retired the band from live performance in 2009 so he could concentrate on other projects, but has said he plans to spend 2012 writing material with the project "in mind."
When asked if he plans to work on Nine Inch Nails soon, Trent told BBC Radio 1, "For sure. I plan on spending a good portion of this year coming up writing with that in mind. Let's see what happens."
Since putting the project - of which he is the sole permanent member - on hold, Trent has started a new band, How to Destroy Angels, and worked on the Oscar winning soundtrack to The Social Network with Atticus Ross. Trent and Atticus have also teamed for another soundtrack, to the US remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which he said was the sort of film he was more comfortable working on.
"I started thinking, 'Finally! Now there's serial killers, tension, anal rapings and stuff like that!" he joked. "But there was an experimentation with familiar - almost orchestral-sounding things but treated in an unusual way. This isn't a soundtrack that's filled with Star Wars-esque theme songs."
