CES 2007 Video: Eclipse AVN 2210p Featuring TomTom One

Eclipse showed off their new in-car stereo and navigation system, the AVN 2210p, which rocks a removable TomTom navigation system. While docked in the car, the TomTom One serves as the screen for a fully featured CD and MP3 entertainment system while it charges. The TomTom One provides turn by turn voice navigation and features TomTom standard map software. When you have reached your destination you can remove the TomTom One from your dash, and have a portable GPS navigation system to get you from your car to local shops and attractions.

It looks like Sony may have learned from it’s mistakes based on it’s first foray into the personal navigation market and have come back swinging for a second round of competition with the NV-U71. What features did Sony throw into this one to make us so impressed? Well, for starters, the Sony NV-U71 has a nifty Gesture Command interface that allows you to make Plam Graffitti-ish type gestures with your finger or stylus right on the screen. Different gestures tell the GPS to do different things - for example, give it an upside-down V shape, and it will navigate your right back to your front door. No need to take your eyes off the road and go through pesky menus. Of course, it also is small and has a 3D map interface featuring a birds-eye view, but they all have that nowadays, don’t they?

Japanese Date, Price for PSP GPS And Camera Released

Sony announced that users in Japan will be able to purchase the GPS and camera peripherals for the PSP on December 7th, according to Game Watch Japan. The pricing for the 640x480 resolution camera is set at 5000 Yen, approximately $42 US. The camera will capture still images and motion at 30 frames per second. In addition, various effects can be applied live to images captured by the camera.
The GPS will sell for 6000 Yen, or around $51 US. No software will be included with the unit, but the GPS will work with Sony’s upcoming navigation software, as well as Sega’s previously announced planetarium software and Konami’s Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.
