Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga at the VMAs

Lady Gaga is the latest star to defend Miley Cyrus after her appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards. The "Applause" singer also took to the stage at the annual event and insisted those criticizing the "We Can't Stop" singer's controversial performance should "lighten up" and understand what pop music is all about.

"I don't like to pass judgement on Miley Cyrus. Generally, people need to lighten up about pop music, it's about entertainment. It is here to make you smile and make you happy. Especially in America there is an excessive dragging of female artists and I don't want to contribute to that. I do things that are polarizing sometimes but that's what it's all about," she said.

Katy PerryKaty Perry was denied permission to perform on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York.

Joan Smalls and Karlie Kloss at the MTV VMAsJust like plenty of movies and fashion trends these days, television shows are also constantly being recycled. MTV, for one, has decided that it's time to bring back the nineties fashion-centric House of Style - this time, however, it will be hosted by models Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls.

MTV announced the news at Thursday night's Video Music Awards, which both models attended to raise awareness of the upcoming program (in addition, of course, to their primary job of just looking stunning on the red carpet) “I can’t believe it," Smalls said. "I’m in shock as well,” Kloss added. “It’s unbelievable and such a huge honor. We have major shoes to fill.”

Cindy Crawford, Amber Valetta, Molly Sims and Rebecca Romijn were a few of the models who hosted the original show back in the day. “Both industries have changed quite a bit. So it’ll be interesting to see how we show that," Kloss said.

The "Cockiness (Love It)" singer debuted short cropped locks at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) yesterday, and while she had been wanted to snip her hair for some time, had originally planned it for after the awards.

"We had been talking about going short for a little while now and actually planned to do it the following week, but I just felt like, why wait? Let's do it today. And Ri said the same thing. She was ready for her short hair again," Rihanna's long time hairstylist, Ursula Stephan, told Us Weekly.

Rihanna took home the biggest award of the night, Video of the Year, for her collaboration with Calvin Harris, "We Found Love," and on her way back to the seat was stopped by her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown, who kissed her on the lips and gave her a hug.

Kevin Hart Talks Kristen Stewart at MTV Video Music Awards

Kevin Hart at the MTV VMAsKevin Hart urged the public to forgive Kristen Stewart for cheating on Robert Pattinson at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

The comedian presented the ceremony in Los Angeles, California and decided to "address the elephant in the room" by discussing her affair with Rupert Sanders. "Everybody's mad at Kristen Stewart for making a mistake. She allegedly messed around with the director of Snow White and the Huntsman. If she did, so what? It's over. Move on. Look on the briight side, they're now a part of the seven dwarfs. You've got sleepy, grumpy, adultery, cheating," the 32-year-old told the audience at the Staples Center.

The actress was caught cheating on her Twilight co-star and real-life boyfriend of three years in mid-July. "The point that I'm making is this, if you made a mistake... so what!" Hart continued.

Carly Rae Jepsen Stunned by VMA Nomination

Carly Rae JepsenCarly Rae Jepsen thinks her VMA nomination is "crazy."

The "Call Me Maybe" singer is stunned at how much her life has changed since her sudden rise to fame and says discovering she was up for the Best New Artist award at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards was the most surreal feeling ever.

"I have to pinch myself. I mean, a year ago I was touring Canada in a soccer mom van, and all of the sudden, my life's just taken off in a completely different direction. Moments like that just let it really sink in. It's crazy," Carly, 26, told MTV News.

The Canadian starlet thinks even being considered for the title is an honor because of the stiff competition from international acts One Direction with their chart-topping tune "What Makes You Beautiful," Frank Ocean with "Swim Good," The Wanted with "Glad You Came" and Fun with "We Are Young" featuring Janelle Monae.
