IMDb Offers Free Internet Movies, TV

Amazon has announced that its subsidiary, IMDb, will be offering free recent and classic films such as “Planet of the Apes” and “The Madness of King George.” There are also trailers and short films. They say that over 6,000 titles are available and include episodes of new season shows like “30 Rock.” We checked out an episode on the site and noticed that it is about as free as regular TV, so expect some commercials, although not to the extent that you find on network television.

Samsung Forecasts the Demise of Blu-ray

Blu-ray Disc Samsung believes that Blu-ray will only last another 5 years and then will be replaced by another format or type of technology such as OLED. Andy Griffiths, Director of Consumer Affairs told Pocket-lint, “We will launch the OLED technology when it’s at a price that will be appealing to the consumer, unfortunately that’s not yet.”

Oddly enough, he may be right. We found out recently that Sony is rumored to be lowering the price of its BDP-S350 this month to make it a $300.00 purchase.

The Japanese company Green-House follows their two previous models by unveiling their new Gaudi DVD player with a 7-inch display (480x234) and 1Seg TV tuner. The GHV-PDV751ST weighs a mere 824g and is compatible with Mpeg-1/2 Xvid, MP3, and JPEG. In addition, it features an SD slot, a battery lifespan of 2.5 hours and video in and out ports. Comcast to cap Internet bandwidth to 250GB per month, starting October 1

Comcast logo Comcast has decided to change its users agreement so that as of Oct. 1, users will only be allowed 250GB per month. This means you can still download about 4 standard def movies per day.

“We know from experience the vast majority of customers we ask to curb usage do so voluntarily,” the company said. While they already reserve the right to eliminate those who use too much, now subscribers will be contacted by the company, as if we don’t already get enough nasty phone calls and letters.

Star Wars Landspeeder

Daniel Deutsch, a designer with the ultimate in talent, built a fiberglass and aluminum replica of the Star Wars Landspeeder in his garage. With an electric drive system, it can hit a top speed of 25 mph, and can go for a few miles with one charge. Even at that slow of a pace, we bet Mark Hamill would still take it around the block. It joins Deutsch’s collection of other clever stuff, such as the R2-D2 shown (Joey Fatone not included.)
