The Canadian company CellWand Communications has teamed with Single Touch Systems to allow AT&T Mobility, Verizon Wireless, and Alltel Wireless customers a new service. It is almost too simple. Need a cab? Press #TAXI on your cell phone. Already successful in Canada, ST’s CEO Anthony Macaluso calls it “like 911 for a taxicab.” The new service is pay per use with Alltel and Verizon subscribers coughing up $1.50 per call, while AT&T users will pay $1.79. Other carriers may be added later this year.

Nokia has a new high end cell phone constructed of carbon fiber, titanium, polished glass, and stainless steel with an anti-fingerprint coating. The 8800 Carbon Arte features a tap-for-time button below the display for an insta-clock. It has turn-to-mute capability by turning the phone screen side down and changing background images. Also included is a 3G memory, a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus cam, high quality audio, and an OLED display. Look for the Arte in the 3rd quarter of this year for €1,100 ($1,620.).

Canada’s Telus has released the LG KEYBO that comes with a QWERTY for rapid text messages, a 2.0 megapixel cam for images and video, the company’s mobile music with a 1 GB storage card (expandable to 8GB,) and stereo speakers. Obviously trying to appeal to younger consumers, the KEYBO gives email access and will set you back $299.99 with no contract, $249.99 with a 1 year, $99.99 for two, and go for the 3 year and it will only cost you $49.99. As even a bigger incentive, go for the Student 35 plan online before Sept. 30 and receive a $50.00 GAP gift card.
