Western Digital WD TV Mini

Western Digital decided to opt for a new model of its latest HD Media Player with the WD TV Mini.  This device serves as a conduit between your TV set and USB connected storage device like a camcorder, external HDD, or even flash drive.  The WD TV Mini may not have the HDMI or full 1080p of its predecessor, but it still support HD with some 1080i goodness, and is available for a low price of $99.

Quicktime Goes Full Screen for Free

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop, Software,

Quicktime 7.2 UpdateWe sometimes use Quicktime on sites when we don’t have a choice, but we really prefer our Microsoft Media Player for its, let’s face it, $0.00 price tag. Now Apple has decided that its 7.2 player will now be able to do one of the things its competitor does, offer full screen viewing. The new version also updates to an H.264 codec and promises a few bug fixes. You can choose between a 19.3MB download for Windows or 51.5MB for Macs.
We appreciate the crumbs but we are still not certain we are ready to pay $30.00 for their Quicktime Pro because we can still head on down to our nearest electonics store and pick up some inexpensive editing software that can do everything Quicktime can, and more, for about the same price.

2006 Holiday Gift Guide: Buffalo LinkTheater Wireless Media Player

The Buffalo LinkTheater Wireless A/G Media Player is new in town, but looks to be a winner. The device allows you to stream just about any video or audio format you can think of from your PC to your home theater system. This new model even has a few optimization specifically targetted toward Intel Viiv PCs, so if you have one of those, it’s a plus (though it’s not required.) The device is even compatible with DRM movie downloads from the likes of CinemaNow and MovieLink. Definitely worth it if you store a bunch of multimedia content on your PC, and you want an easy way to get that to your HDTV.
