Mac OS X 10.5.7 now available

All you OS X users out there, it’s time once again to fire up Software Update if you are on Leopard, because Mac OS X 10.5.7 is now available for download. This update focuses on bug fixes, stability, and security, with changes to iCal, Mail, parental controls, printing, and more.

Word on the street is that this may be the last update for Leopard, as Snow Leopard is right around the corner, seeing seed updates about once every two weeks. We’ve got the full list of changes for 10.5.7 for you, after the jump.

ZumBox Paperless Postal Service

Take a look at Zumbox, a startup that is a nationwide paperless postal service. They have one virtual mailbox for every street address which they estimate at 150MM+. To use the service, after signup you type in your street address and view your mail as an envelope. Use it to send mail to any other address, including your bills, statements and personal mail. It costs nothing to receive mail and you can send free a “small amount.” Businesses will pay an introductory price of $.02 per address for large mailings.

Netflix Gets Hassled by USPS

Apparently, the office of the USPS Inspector General is not happy because the mailers that Netxflix uses have to be sorted by hand. They estimate that it is costing them about $21 million a year and have suggested that the company include a 17 cent surcharge from now on. Tony Wible, a Citigroup analyst who wrote the report, says that the income that Netflix receives per subscriber would fall from $1.05 to 35 cents. We know that Netxflix, which mails out about 1.6 million movies a day, is clever enough to create a redesigned mailer sometime soon.

How To: Change iPhone Email Signature

We’ve been using our iPhone for answering many an email while on the go, and one question we hear from other iPhone owners deals with how we changed the “Sent from my iPhone” text from the email signature. We figured a quick how to was in order. It’s quite simple, really, but if you tend to stay away from the Settings menu, then you would never see it. From the iPhone home screen, hit Settings, and then scroll down and tap Mail. You will see a Signature area that you can tap. Once you do this, you are editing your iPhone signature. You can get rid of the default altogether and roll with no signature at all if you like, or you can edit it to your specific preference.
