MAD Magazine And Cartoon Network

What, me hurry? Here’s how quickly things can turn around. Last year, DC Comics reduced the frequency of MAD Magazine, the perennial humor magazine for snarky kids of all ages, from monthly to quarterly. They cited all the usual reasons.
Most bloggers jumped to the idea that DC had done little to actually brand MAD beyond a couple of spin-off magazines. There was no movie (except for a long-forgotten Animal House wannabe called Up The Academy which licensed only the MAD name, and that was 30 years ago), no animated series, no TV show (except for MADtv, which just licensed the name), and little to no merchandise. Oh, and only the most perfunctory of websites.
Jump ahead a year. There’s a change of management at DC. MAD’s frequency is pushed forward so that it’s now going to be bi-monthly.

MadTV Spoof of Barack Obama

We are sure that by now everyone has seen the incredible impression that Tina Fey did on last week’s SNL, but you might have missed a performance on MadTV last weekend of Keegan-Michael Key doing Barack Obama. While we couldn’t find the original skit, we did manage to grab a clip by Young Hollywood.com interviewing the “Fauxbarack.” Eerie, isn’t it?
By the way, don’t you think that Peggy Hill looks a lot like Sarah Palin, too?

MADtv Spoofs New iPod Ad

With all the problems going on with the writer’s strike, we are grateful that Madtv has just debuted its 13th season. We have always appreciated their humor when dealing with Apple and this parody about the iPod is no exception. Based on the new nano commercial with Feist’s “One, Two, Three, Four” as a soundtrack, our kudos to the comedy troupe that keeps getting funnier every year. Check out their video, “They Keep Changing the iPod.”
