MacBook Pro (late 2013) review
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Features, PC / Laptop, Product Reviews,
A couple of weeks ago, Apple introduced the world to the iPad Air, but during the same event, the new 2013 MacBook Pro lineup was also revealed, going on sale that same afternoon. These new MacBook Pros would ship with OS X 10.9 Mavericks, the new desktop operating system that was also released that same day, completely free of charge. The 2013 MacBook Pro line sees some significant updates--things like a thinner body, Retina display, PCIe storage, and Haswell processors. So, how do all these changes come together at the end of the day, and is the end result enough for you to give it your attention? Does a thinner, lighter, cheaper, and more powerful package add up to more than the sum of its parts? We answer all this and more in our 13-inch MacBook Pro (late 2013) review.

At today's Apple iPad event, the company revealed a new 13-inch MacBook Pro. The Retina display model from last year is now the default, and it's is thinner and lighter, at 0.71 inches thick and 3.46 pounds. Apple also cut the price by $1299 (but also defaults now to 4GB RAM instead of 8GB in the base.) Apple says that the new 13-incher gets 9 hours of battery life, Thunderbolt 2, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi support. You can pick up the new 13-inch MacBook Pro today.

Apple has announced an immediate price reduction on the entry-level 128 GB 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, slashing the price by $200 down to $1499. Additionally, for $1699 (the same price that the entry-level model used to be) you can now get the 256 GB version with a faster 2.6 GHz processor.
On the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro side of things, the $2,199 base model now features an upgraded 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 processor (up from a 2.3 GHz chip,) while the top-of-the-line $2,799 model now sports a 2.7 GHz i7 with 16 GB RAM.
As an aside, Apple has also dropped the price of the 13-inch MacBook Air with 256 GB storage--it now sells for $1,399, $100 less than it sold for previously.

Watch every Apple commercial from 1977-2012

Speaking of marketing, watch every Apple commercial from 1977 to present day. There's about 485 commercials, which includes the famous Mac vs PC, the technicolored hipster iPod dance ads and, of course, the iconic 1984 Macintosh SuperBowl spot directed by Sir Ridley Scott. One of my favorites, the first iPhone ad 'Surprised' from 2007.

Right as the Microsoft Surface tablet went on sale for pre-order, Apple sent out invites to it's next press event, where it will reveal the 7.85-inch iPad mini to the world. It's also heavily rumored that a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display will also be a part of the festivities, as well as an updated Mac mini, and maybe even new iMacs (finally!) As always, we'll have live coverage of everything that goes down, so keep it locked right here on Tuesday at 10:00am PT, where Apple will show off its new hotness from the California Theatre in San Jose.
13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display set for October 23rd?
Posted by Jason Diaz Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop, Rumors,
First reported by 9to5Mac, AllThingsD is also reporting that a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display may be anounced alongside the 7.85-inch iPad mini during a speculated Apple invite-only press event on the 23rd of October. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display is rumored to have a 2560 x 1600 display (226 pixels per inch,) the same port layout as the 15-inch model, and the same all flash storage configuration. Also like the 15-inch model, the smaller version will be priced much higher than the non-Retina display MacBook Pro of the same size. All in all, it appears that the next Apple event will focus on new size iterations, rather than on entirely new products.
